Afraid so. It is addictive, it's all the caffeine in it, like tea or coffee which is the drug, and the more you resist the desire to get your next fix, the more your body cries out for it, it's overwhelming.
There is only one cure and that is not to drink it. Don't buy any when you go shopping, if it's not in the house you can't have any.
It will be hard and it will take about two weeks til it is out of your system, but you can and will get there.
It will ruin your teeth and the lining of your stomach. Not because of the sugar, even diet coke will do the same damage, but it's the chemicals in it particularly the acid. You probably fart and burp a lot, get moody and aggressive if you can't have a drink, buzzing one minute and down the next.
Go cold turkey. You cannot ween yourself off coke, you just have to stop. Yes, it will be hard, you'll feel like pulling your hair out, but it will only last 2 weeks then it will be out of your system.
But don't go on to another soft drink, you'll still be damaging your body, get some sugar free cordial, that way you'll get plenty of water because you are dehydrated. Coke makers are very sneaky and put a chemical in coke that dehydrates you so that makes you want to drink more, you ruin your health while they get rich.
Good luck with it, I know how hard it is.

Well we'll start by saying that it (like most things) is ok 'in moderation' Having been a 10 litre (hmm that's only a bit more than a bucketful..) a day drinker for several years I can probably advise that you should watch out for the (1) Hallucinations (after 7 or 8 cans in a row); (2) Blood sugar anomalies (massive 'brown-outs'); (3) Tooth decay, and (4) Heart palpitations. Essentially it's the sugar, phosphoric acid and caffeine that cause the concern (when taken in massive doses).
Folk have speculated that if someone 'invented' caffiene (or nicotine) today they'd never get it past the regulators and onto the market. What can you do to improve the situation for yourself? Switch to a diet version, switch to a caffeine free version, and keep water in the fridge (lots of water). And when you drink coke, sip it real slow and enjoy the taste. And as an interesting exercise, calculate how much you spend on your 'drinking habit'. THAT can be quite surprising.

While people are right, the key is moderation and drinking too much of it is not good for you, I'd like to stress that the human body is extremely resilient (this doesn't mean that you should test it to the extremes, however.)
Yes, Coke can eat through a nail, a T-bone steak, clean chrome, and cops sometimes use it to clean blood off of the highway, but the human body is able to withstand this fluid. The acids in the stomach are strong, and drinking Coke moderately will NOT dissolve your innards. If it were dangerous to drink, many people, including those who say they were addicted to it, would not be around to type that information.
Drink it occasionally. It's really good, but it's not milk or water, so you don't need four glasses of it everyday (it waters case, eight.) It's not like alcohol of tobacco, and it most likely won't kill you, but slow down a little.

I don't like coke, so I never drink it anyway, but I think it can be addictive, owing to the caffeine content.
Maybe you should try weaning yourself off of it, by replacing it occasionally with carbonated, flavoured water. Perfectly clear do some nice flavours, including strawberry and kiwi fruit, and summer fruits, which are raspberries, blackberries and blackcurrants. This water is clear and contains no added sugar, so it would probably flush the caffeine out of your system, and probably save you a deal of money, as well. If you replace the coke starting with one glass a day, and progress by a glass each day, you'll soon be off the coke and not have to worry about all the damage it can do to you. Monitor it as well, in a notebook or somewhere, so you can see your achievement.. that always seems to keep you focused.
I hope this will help. Good luck and good health. :-)

That's my worry as well! I've drank nothing but Coke since I was about 10 years old, not even a glass of water in between! I am 39 now and it hasn't made any difference up to now. I worried about it when I was pregnant because everything is supposed to affect the baby. I thought it would show in the placenta, you know the way smoking changes it but it hadn't. So I think all the tales of how it wrecks your stomach lining are just scare stories. I drink minimum 2-3 litres a day and I'm not fat either. Another myth? I'm with Gengi$ on this one!

Well I have drunk anything between a pint to 3 liters of coke a day since I was very young and at 28 I'm showing no health problems, except I maybe fart more than I would.
Seriously though I have always drunk diet coke because I just prefer it but my sister in law who is a nutritionalist will not touch diet coke only the full sugar stuff. Apparently there is stuff in it that will make your toes curl, and not in a good way.

I drink coke - I used to shake if I hadn't had a glassful by ten in the morning. Gradually weaned myself of it. My father, an alcholic, pointed out that I was addicted to it. (I don't drink alcohol.) Anyway, I started to drink diet coke a few years later. Because of it, I have 10 crowns on my teeth. And I need another 6. I only drink it "socially" now!

I heard that too...
Anything done in excess is bad for you
Try putting a nail in a glass of Coke and let it sit for awhile...watch what happens to the nail....
Its a nail.....your stomach is made out of what?
I know many people who are addicted to Coke/Pepsi...drink it all day long. Way too much sugar but seem to want it all the time
wonder what they put in it?
Remember when coke was first invented it did contain real cocaine......
Also check out for diabetes a constant thirst is a main symptom

ever left a piece of meat in a glass of coke? Two days later, there is no meat.. thats what it does to your stomach. Plus, seeing as there's 7 sugar lumps in a glass of normal coke and that diet coke contains aspartame, which is a drug, you'd be better off not drinking coke at all..

I always remember a science experiment we were shown at school where a tooth was left in a glass of Coke for a week or so and was rotting horribly when taken out again.
