Actually, that is why he is called the best man. The origianal tradition is he use to sleep with all the bridesmaids, groomsmen, drivers and even the ushers. But it was forbidden that he sleep with the bride or the groom, because if he slept with the bride, he no longer would be the best man, but now that would make him the groom. So if you are planning to be the best man at a wedding in the near future, I suggest that you get a wheelbarrel, go out to your uncles farm and line up the cows so you get plenty of practice, since I am sure this is a very tireing task and you want to be in shape before the wedding so you do not end up sleeping through the entire wedding.
