I guess it depends on how old they are and how far you are going. I remember my first long distance train trip when I was 3! We went from Seattle to Baltimore. My mom brought kid friendly card games, books and plenty of snacks. Now-a-days, there's the portable dvd players you could bring. I also remember my mom kept her $$ in her bra just in case- you never know if someone is going to rummage through your stuff when you are sleeping.

Hi!! I think the best thing is to have some things to occupy their time. Bring some of their favorite books or toys that will keep them busy. Also take along some snacks and drinks because my daughter tends to get hungry on trains and planes. Best of luck traveling with your kids... I know it can be very tough but hopefully you have a good trip!!

Coloring books, lots of them don't forget the crayons. Children need as much entertainment as possible. So take whatever you can to entertain your child. Coloring books, game boys, portable DVD players, MP3 player, crossword puzzles, word searches. Depending on the age range. If you take your trip at a time that your child will nap, that's even better.

As some other people have said bring stuff to occupy their time but don't forget to bring snacks ( for smaller children ) so you don't spend a fortune.
