There is no official right religion. The right religion is the one that you're happy with.

That's a very good question.

Religion is pretty much based on word of mouth. Even what's in the holy books were passed on by word of mouth before they were written down. So basically the followers of any religion are living by what somebody else has told them, without even checking whether that somebody got it right in the first place. We all know about the game "Chinese Whispers". Imagine one that lasted thousands of years and was played by people all over the world. That's pretty much my view of religion.

The answer I have: Follow your heart, listen to your instincts, trust your own judgement, choose what makes sense to you. Coz right or wrong in the eyes of the masses, if the religion doesn't feel right to YOU, you're living a lie anyway.

I agree with Bill. Take a look at what the religion teaches. Is it from the Bible? What do the ones practicing in their religion do? Do they follow the Bible, or just go to church on Sundays? Do they live by what they learn?

Of the many important things Jesus said, these two things are keys to identifying the true religion:

First at John 13:35 he said: "By this all will know that you are my disciples, if you have love among yourselves."
What religion shows they love one another, worldwide, and doesn't kill others, whether in wars or any other way?

Next point is that Jesus warned his diciples that there would be false prophets (or today false religions). He said at Matthew 7:15-20:
"Be on the watch for the false prophets that come to you in sheep's covering, but inside they are ravenous wolves. By their fruits you will recognize them. Never do people gather grapes from thorns or figs from thistles, do they? Likewise every good tree produces fine fruit, but every rotten tree produces worthless fruit; a good tree cannot bear worthless fruit, neither can a rotten tree produce fine fruit. Every tree not producing fine fruit gets cut down and thrown into the fire. Really then, by their fruits you will recognize those [men]."

True worshippers of God and followers of Christ will produce fine fruit. The true religion produces fine fruit, they live by their teachings, they teach Truth from God's Word, they do not base their teachings on worldly traditions. They produce good works. They speak Truth.

THe answer is in the thought behind the question. From a pure statistical perspective, most of the world is following the wrong religion, BUT keep in mind:

Religions were created by men (not god) to control other men. Nothing more, nothing less. If religions would cease to exist, so would the reason for most of the conflict in the world.

The right one to what end????
To avoid the eternal flames of hell????

I challenge anyone who reads this post to respond with a single natural event that is observable on this planet which in any way suggests such a thing exists?
A single occurance that indicates the whole universe is a test to see who burns and who gets bliss?
Just one example in the natural universe from which we can conclude the creating force our "God" condones and encourages (in fact instituted) eternal suffering and pains of hell.

Anything. Anything at all.

Getting back to your question - whichever one gives you the warm and fuzzies and makes you personally feel like a magician or a cleric drawing from your magical spells, blessing things you like and damning things you don't like, that's the right religion for you!

Christianity:
First read the Bible. Then read the writings of the pre and post nicene Fathers. The rule is - DO NOT read first the heretical views that anti-Trinitarians have or you can be deceived. You must first established what you consider to be authoritative works, and consider the writings of the early Church Fathers and the works of Evangelical scholars. We cannot just read the bible and then determine if the religion we are in is correct or wrong. No, the Bible is a complex book when viewed theologically. After you have established your own set of beliefs that adheres to the "orthodox" teachings of Christianity, then you now decide of which Christian sect to follow. I personally recommend Evangelical Christianity.

What I think the real question should be is:

With so many different religions out there that claim infallibility, how could a compassionate God demand that admittedly imperfect people to find the right one?

You can judge which religion's teaching are un-changed and pure since revealation.
If you collect Quran from All over the world you will find no change of even a alphabet. It is final guidance of Allah.
on the other hand you will find more than 2,000 versions of bibles and no two bibles matches each other. as pasters have been changing it from the very inception.
Quran will give youl light. Try.

Whose the father of confusion? Satan. What would confuse humans more away from the truth than to have a million different religions? Who is Satan's rival? Jesus. There's your truth. He said, "I am the Way, the TRUTH, and the Life. No one comes to the Father except through Me." John 14:6

What is false religion?

Why does religion seem to be at the root of so many problems?
The fault lies, not with all religion, but with “false” religion.

False Religion...MEDDLES IN WAR AND POLITICS: How many religions can you think of whose members engage in war?

False Religion...SPREADS FALSE DOCTRINE: Most religions teach that the soul of spirit is some invisible part of a human that survives the death of the physical body. However, the Bible teaches a different doctrine. “The soul that is sinning, it itself will die.” Ezekiel 18:4 Jesus taught that the dead will be resurrected, an unnecessary action if humans had an immortal soul. Does your religion teach that the soul does not die?

False Religion...TOLERATES IMMORAL SEX: Church groups ordain gay and lesbian members of the clergy. What, though, does the Bible teach? It plainly states: “Do YOU not know that unrighteous persons will not inherit God’s kingdom? Do not be misled. Neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor men kept for unnatural purposes, nor men who lie with men.” 1 Cor. 6:9,10 Do you know of religions that condone immoral sex?

How to identify true religion.

True Religion...PRACTICES LOVE: True worshippers are “no part of the world,” are not divided by race or culture, and display “love among themselves.” Rather than killing one another, they are willing to die for one another.

True Religion...TRUSTS GOD'S WORD: Instead of teaching “tradition” and “commands of men as doctrines,” true religion bases its doctrine on God's Word, the Bible

True Religion...STRENGTHENS FAMILIES AND UPHOLDS HIGH MORAL STANDARDS: True religion trains husbands to “love their wives as their own bodies,” helps wives to develop “deep respect for their husbands,” and teaches children to “be obedient to their parents.”

True Religion is available, search for it.

Depends on what you get out of the religion in terms of reality. This includes how everyone preceives you, reacts to you, respects you and how you feel about yourself, your actions (which would be based on the concept of how you would feel if those actions were done upon you by others), your results and your inner feelings.
