Everytime I see a question on here pertaining to religion, either pro or against it, someone inevitably writes an extended reply about how ignorant they are. Athiests talk about how the religious are brainwashed, and the religious go into a rant on the athiests going to hell. Is it really that hard to allow others to believe what they believe without condemning them?

What I meant to say, Cucumber and Woodworker, is that there has to be a better way to put out your message than "God says you unbelievers are going to hell" I am a Christian, btw, but why does that make me better than some Jewish guy who worships the same God, but not Jesus, or a Muslum and Allah, or a Hindi, Budhist, etc? We even have dissent in among Christians about aour beliefs. Discussion is one thing, but this is exactly what I am talking about. Why does it need to be so black and white, right and wrong?

You're absolutely right!

For some reason, there are those who definitely THRIVE on verbally assaulting the other side --and both sides are equally guilty of this-- if only to gain the approval of their peers and cohorts who will drag them down to mudslinging and name-calling, knowing full well that it will only fuel the anger of the other side more, and on and on, ad nauseum...

Such self-serving, childish antics are quite sophomoric, tasteless and even boring at times, creating only more divisiveness among ourselves rather than learning and understanding each other's perspective a little better.

It's such an irony that we think and even brag to ourselves that we are considered to be called "human beings" when, in fact, we ought to learn how to be "human becomings" first...

Peace be with you.

Personally I have no idea why you are so blatantly asking this stupid question pertaining to religion.

I am neither pro or against it, but someone must inevitably write an extended reply about how ignorant I am being for writing this reply. We all talk about how brainwashed some people are and make some long rant about persons going to heaven or hell or where ever. Why must you remind us that we are all allowed to believe what ever we want without feeling the need to condemn others?

Rant rant rant......sigh. (glad I read that fabulous question)

Thanks for the fun.....I love a good rant!

Peace and Laughter to you my friend!

That's why it has been forever said ... you don't discuss politics and religion in groups. There can never be agreement, and it always ends in arguments and hurt feelings. At least here, we don't really know each other and don't live next door to one another. Can you imagine if we all lived in the same neighborhood and got on the computer every night and fought it out about religion? We'd never speak during the daylight hours!

Edit: Nich ... I'm guessing A rather than C ....

Because Religion is and always has been a heated Subject.
Back in the day... A lady named Emily Post who for lack of a better description was known as the Queen of manners. She had 2 basic rules... Never discuss Politics, never discuss Religion.
I'm not saying I agree that there shouldn't be a discussion, but...even then they knew it was a loaded subject.
I for one just wish we could all get along!
Nobody telling me I'm going to hell and me not having to mention the brainwashing thing! Peace~

I know exactly what you mean.
No, it isn't hard to present what one believes with condemning. Jesus didn't condemn. He brought hope and life.
Those who "rant on the atheists going to hell" are not providing a very good sample or example of who and what they believe.

As for the atheists, I'll let someone who is one answer this.

I am a non believer and I agree with all you say. If only others would be more tolerant because no matter what you believe we could all be wrong. Religion is a matter of faith not proven fact and being a non believer puts me in the same boat. It is simply what I believe.

I agree. You have to be an open person to ask this question. I believe that no one is right or wrong, we just all have opinions and should be open to everyone else's thoughts, too. If we close our minds and don't try to expand them, what's the point of being alive at all? Maybe the answer to your question is that some people are afraid to learn something.

I guess it's just human nature. Maybe also because religious questions can be a sensitive issue. Some people can be very tolerant people while others just live to insult others.

Basically, people who only think about themselves tend to go overboard, without realizing that they are making a fool of themselves. Well, that's humans...

I can only speak from my side of that fence and say due to my upbringing, observations and experiences, the other side frightens me to the core - they have caused so much destruction while spreading willful ignorance based on absolutely nothing.
I can't help but believe the other side thrives in a state of self-induced delirium and ego-centric arrogance.

Which side of the fence do you think i am on?
