Your mother is mistaken on some of those things. You can help her to see that.
What she is correct on is that swearing is not what true Christians would want to do. If you meant swearing as in saying bad words, Ephesians 5:3-5 says that obscene things should not even be mentioned among you. Certain types of music are filled with obscene lyrics. Not always is a type of music all bad, though, and I don't think all rock songs are bad.
Horror movies are objectionable to a Christian conscience because it is a very serious thing to being involved in any form of spiritism.
2 Chronicles 33:6 speaks of wicked King Manas'seh. It says about him: "And he himself made his own sons pass through the fire in the valley of the son of Hin'nom, and practiced magic and used divination and practiced sorcery and made spiritistic mediums and professional foretellers of events. He did on a grand scale what was bad in the eyes of Jehovah to offend him." So this scripture shows that it offends our Creator and it is a great badness to have anything to do with spiritism or demonism.
Even when horror movies do not contain spiritism, they usually contain gross violence. Watching horror movies, can erode our capacity to sympathize and empathize with the suffering of others. The apostle Paul condemned those who "because of the insensibility [literally translated "dulling"] of their hearts" came to be "past all moral sense." He encouraged Christians instead to "become kind to one another, tenderly compassionate." (Ephesians 4:18,19,32)
About chocolate and caffeine: Nowhere in the Bible does it say that there is anything wrong with chocolate or caffeine.
Finally, alcohol is not prohibitted in the Bible, it is something that many of God's servants enjoyed in the past. In fact the first miracle that Jesus Christ performed, as recorded in the Bible,
was at the marriage feast in Ca'na where he turned water into fine wine. He added to the enjoyment of the wedding celebration by doing this. (John 2:1-11). Jesus also used wine as a fitting symbol of his blood when inaugurating the Lord's Evening Meal. (Matthew 26:27-29)
It was even recommended for medicinal purposes at 1 Timothy 5:23; Luke 10:34
Psalm 104:15 says: "And wine makes the heart of mortal man rejoice....."
However, drinking a lot of wine, or getting drunk is condemned in the Bible. Jewish priests were free to drink in moderation when off duty. However, they were forbidden to drink any alcoholic beverages while engaging in their priestly duties. (Leviticus 10:8-11)
First-century Christians were warned that drunkards "will not inherit God's Kingdom." (1 Corinthians 6:9,10)
Unrepentant drunkards were also expelled from the Christian congregation. (1 Corinthians 5:11-13)
At Proverbs 20:1, the Bible also says that "wine is a ridiculer" meaning that excess alcohol weakens your inhibitions and impairs your judgment so that you do foolish things. (and sometimes dangerous things.)
I'm sure your mother means well, and is trying to protect you but if she does tell you something is wrong and you are not sure, ask her to show you in the Bible. Maybe it will help her think about searching for the truth about things in the Bible.

Well this non-denominational Christian drinks coffee and tea all the time, loves chocolate, on occasion will listen to rock, and at dinner will have a glass or two of wine. I also used to be Catholic, so I don't know what she is meaning by any of it. I do know that when I became born-again, my sister who is still Catholic would comment about this or that , and say she didn't think "Christians" were supposed to do that (in a sarcastic tone!)
From what I have learned is that there is nothing in the Bible regarding alcohol except to not get drunk and make it a problem.
The music, as long as it is not manipulating your mind into going against your Christian values it shouldn't be a problem. But the chocolate and caffeine, I have no idea about!
Just remember that your Christian walk is something to be proud of, and it is a journey and learning process. You will see that sometimes there are questions you will have along the way, but don't get discouraged.
Many Blessings to you....

Most likely she could just be messing with you... but some things don't seem to add up though:
First, you say your mom is a Catholic; and you say that you are "NEW" [?] to Christianity?? How can that be so?...
Then you say that you go to a non-denominational church rather than a Catholic church? ...But yet it is your mom who tells you what you are allowed to do and what you are not allowed to do?? That sure doesn't make much sense really unless she is also a member of that non-denominational church that you go to.
But forget about her telling you that eating chocolate, or drinking coffee, or watching horror movies, or listening to rock music are not allowed. Because those are all fine regardless which sect you belong to.
And, of course, swearing and the [excessive] drinking of alcohol --especially if you're still a minor[!]-- would be off limits by either church, I think so.
Peace be with you!

You can eat and drink with moderation chocolate, drink with caffiene like tea and coffee and alcohol(this is borderline, if you cannot hold it ,no). You can listen to rock music provided the lyrics are ok. Watching horror movies disturbs the inner peace that God desires you to have and if you desire this this peace you should not watch. The other reason is that people have been known to be oppressed by demons through the fear generated in them through watching these movies. For myself I drink coffee, tea and bit of wine. I would not watch horror movies because I want to stay in the Kingdom mode which is righteousness, peace and joy in the Holy Spirit (Rom 14:17) Perhap you should also find out what your own church says to these things.

Well, the closer you draw to God, the more things in life you will find offensive because they're offensive to Him. Like horror movies or certain music or profanity and such. As far as eating chocolate, drinking alcohol or anything with caffeine in it...as long as it's in moderation, I don't see the problem. The thing is all of those things you mentioned are bad for your body.
Did you not know that your body is the temple of God and He resides within a believer, through the Holy Spirit? If you remember that you will take a second look at what you're putting into your body, through all of your senses...

I know that drinking alcohol is one thing christians should not do but chocolate, caffine, horror movies, rock music. You are an individual and are free to chose. I'm a Pastor and I eat chocolate, and drink coffee and soda with caffine, I watch horror movies and action thrillers, and still listen to my old Eminem albums. And no I'm not old I'm 21, but cursing, alcohol, drugs, here this is easy, just ask yourself what would Jesus do. If its something that he wouldn't do then don't do it.

There is no Biblical law against drinking alcohol, smoking ciggs or drinking stuff with caffeine although many Cristian groups discourage the ingestion of alcohol and tobacco - with good reason. We are told to honor God with our bodies () and that includes taking care of our bodies by avoiding substance abuse. I have been a Christian for more than 20 years and I drink coffee, soda and if I could handle alcohol (am allergic to it), I'd probably enjoy the occassional celebration glass on weddings or New Year. Everything in moderation and recieved with Thanksgiving.
Your mom may be refering to the Mormons who do not drink anythign with caffeine in it; do not take alcoholic drinks, do not smoke, etc. But we Evangelicals do not consider Mormons as Christians really becuase they have a totally different theology.

You shouldn't swear,or fill your mind with the garbage that can be found in many movies and some music. That said, there is plenty of secular music that isn't like that.As for the caffeine and chocolate,I'm not sure where she got that from.I'd ask her about that one. Some Christians drink alcohol, some don't.It's really up to what you feel convicted to do.

Actually, Satanists are Pagan. Not all Pagans are Satanists, but Satanism is a Pagan religion. Not all Satanists are theistic Satanists, so they don't believe in Satan persay. Even the theistic Satanists don't worship a figure of absolute evil. They worship a god of freedom. Research it. No they're not Christian. They are Pagan.
