1. All Muslim scholars agree that a Muslim man must always cover the part of his body which is described as "awrah". This term denotes "what is unbecoming, shameful or indecent to reveal." A substantial body of Muslim scholars are of the view that a man's awrah extends from the waistline down to the knees, with the knees not included. However, other scholars are of the view that a man's awrah is limited to his genitals and back passage. This is perhaps the more accurate view, supported by the stronger evidence. Any type of dress which covers the awrah proper and is not seen as something that could lead to indecent behavior and is not an imitation of clothing that is distinctive of non-believers is permissible to wear. Thus there is no harm in wearing the clothes you have described. Some rigid people claim at times that wearing a shirt and tie imitates non-believers. This is not true because such clothes are the normal dress for large communities in the Muslim world. Muslims must also guard against wearing anything that is considered a mark of pride or arrogance. Whatever conveys an air of arrogance is forbidden to wear.

2. The veil is only when the woman is around strange men (non family members) that could one day be her husband. Pictures can be taken of the woman without a veil by family members for other family members and women to see. These pictures are just not to be seen by men that are not apart of the family

Wow! A lot of hate and ignorance in this topic. Muslim women - ahh, some choose and some do not. The reason women cover up and men do not is because of the sexuality associated with men and women. And I think if they were wearing the full abaya they could care less about a family slide show. Many women just wear the hijab BY CHOICE, and the face is visible.

And to JUDY - That is nothing what Islam is! Men and women were created equal in Islam.

Okay, according to you a woman wears an outfit (or even no outfit at all) that is expected by her society in order for her not to be shunned and there's no choice.

Well, that certainly is what happened in many societies.

As for group photo with lots of covered people.

You know them the same way you describe a photo.

why muslim women wears a veil..well its saiy so in Quran...its part of religion..of course it depend to the women..but we cant question that..

Quran calls this mode of dressing "modest". Muslims, male and female, are expected to dress without exposure of intimate body parts as expressed in the Qur'an:

"Say to the believing men that they should lower their gaze and guard their modesty: that will make for greater purity for them: And Allah is well acquainted with all that they do." [24:30]
"And say to the believing women that they should lower their gaze and guard their modesty; that they should not display their beauty and ornaments except what (must ordinarily) appear thereof; that they should draw their veils over their bosoms ... " [24:31]
"O Prophet! Tell thy wives and thy daughters and the women of the believers to draw their cloaks close round them. That will be better, so that they may be recognized and not annoyed. Allah (SWT) is ever Forgiving, Merciful." [33:59]
However, there are many different interpretations of what "modesty" requires. See the article on hijab for an extended discussion of modest dress.

Generally, most Islamic scholars agree that women are not required to wear the veil seeing as the Prophet said that the only part(s) of the woman's body that need not be covered are her face and hands. Rather, the wearing of the veil came later from Islamic fundamentalists. The history of women wearing the veil has existed in the Middle East since pre-Islamic times. It is said that the wearing of the veil was adopted as a part of Islam by religious fanatics (especially the Wahabbis of Saudi Arabia), from the pagan traditions of pre-Islamic Mecca & Persia.

Covering up a woman's face is a choice and not an Islamic rule and it is just the same as nuns choosing to cover up. I agree with youthatthe face should not be covered due to security reasons, but if they choose to cover their hair and necks and wear clothes that cover their whole body, they are free to do so as long as you still can tell how they look like and whether they are really women.

In many ancient cultures the Goddess's hair was viewed as the seat of her soul and spiritual energy and the source of her magical power. Many mortal women also attributed this magical power to their own hair and locks of hair were often used as talismans and dedicated as offerings on a sacred alter. For this reason many patriarchal religions view a woman's hair as potentially harmful and a source of magical power over men. Early Christian Nuns and many Jewish women were compelled to shave their heads for this reason and women were not allowed inside a church unless their heads were fully covered. The custom of the hajib to cover the hair of Muslim women indeed has the same superstitious origins.

Even muslims ladies are allowed to wear wht they want but it should be decent enough to cover her up..about veil so its muslims lady identity...covering face is not ordered by quran but its social while she should cover her hair and rest of the body not necessary with burqa etc but her dress should not expose her.
Well ladies wear it by choice they are not forced for it..muslim women prefer it . and yes for your question of identity....it must be strange for you that even with veil , as person who has once seen the lady 's face (family memeber , friend etc) can easily recognise her just from her eyes...

Because women are hot, and its hard to abstain from sex when you have girls dressing like mini-prostitutes 24/7 in society.

Men are the problem, not women, the women have to cover up in order for us to control ourselves more.. at least that's my interpretation of it.

because muslims actually believe that muslim men are nothing but pigs who would want to rutt with any woman they saw if they weren't covered up. Kind of makes one wonder what their prophet was really like if he thought this way.

As I understand it, Muslim women "cover up" by choice. They are not forced.
