I know what you mean. Its not always nice having small meaninless chats to people you may never see ever again.
Just talk about the small thingslike the weather & ask what role do they take in their job etc are they married etc are they going away for xmas
Make sure your boy hangs around close to you
have fun!

Well - you're going - so make the best of it. The one thing you have in common with these people is your boyfriend. So talk about him. Ask if they work with him - and what they do. Questions are great - and if you ask people questions about themselves - they usually love to answer. Good luck!

i would start off by complimenting them on trivial things like a guy's tie or on a pretty haristyle or what not. then if that gets old move on to small talk about things you notice like the drink the person is drinking or something. i would steer clear of politics or religion but thats obvious isnt it? if it gets too awkward or boring you can just run off to the powder room :]

You just stand there and smile a lot. And wait for them to ask you questions. And hope that the time goes really quickly.
I hate going to those things, I would have "developed" a sudden illness--LOL

That is the beauty of meeting new people. Same way you are reaching out here on Yahoo. meeting new people, its the same way, except some of us meet people better in person and others on the computer.
I prefer both.

Ask them about themselves..
"So what do you do here?"
"How long have you worked here?"
"Where do you live?"
"Do you have kids?"
etc. etc.
