I've been searching around and I cannot find a state (US) that allows tattoos to someone under the age of 18 with parental consent. I live in washington and am willing to go a couple states away. I am also willing to go to Canada for my tattoo. What are the laws there?

Is there anywhere (state or country) near the Washinton area that will tattoo on a minor with parental consent???

I'm pretty sure california lets you get a tattoo with parental consent...

oh.. okay nevermind, I guess that was changed. You still can get piercings though..

California penal code 653 states that it is a misdemeanor to tattoo someone under the age of 18! And no one can sign for you, including a parent, brother, sister, aunt or uncle... you must be 18! As far as piercing is concerned, no one under 18 can get nipple or private piercings, but you are allowed to receive other piercings.

First off, if you're under the age of 18, even with a note from Mommy, you can't get a tattoo. Forget it you're out of luck, it's a law. In the state of Washington this is the legal code about tattooing minors.
RCW 26.28.085
Applying tattoo to a minor -- Penalty.

Every person who applies a tattoo to any minor under the age of eighteen is guilty of a misdemeanor. It is not a defense to a violation of this section that the person applying the tattoo did not know the minor's age unless the person applying the tattoo establishes by a preponderance of the evidence that he or she made a reasonable, bona fide attempt to ascertain the true age of the minor by requiring production of a driver's license or other picture identification card or paper and did not rely solely on the oral allegations or apparent age of the minor.

For the purposes of this section, "tattoo" includes any permanent marking or coloring of the skin with any pigment, ink, or dye, or any procedure that leaves a visible scar on the skin. Medical procedures performed by a licensed physician are exempted from this section. Every person who applies a tattoo to {+ or who engages in body piercing on +} any minor under the age of eighteen is guilty of a misdemeanor.

[1995 c 373 § 1.]

I think that all states have their own laws about this, but I can almost guarantee that that they all have pretty much the same law.

I'm not sure about any of the states, but i'm from Canada and i can tell you that you "have to be" 18 to get a tattoo here. However, there are a lot of credible tattoo parlours that don't ask for ID if you look around the age of 18.

Good luck on your search.

No CREDIBLE Tattoo artist would touch someone under 18 even WITH parental consent.

Any artist that WOULD should be avoided at all costs. Trust me, it's worth waiting.

And this is coming FROM a tattoo artist in Arkansas

Hi Laws in Canada covering tatooing are handled by provincial authorities. 18 is the age of consent in most provinces though with parental approval 16 is in most. I hope that this assists you in terms of your choices. I live in Alberta and have lived in BC and those are the laws in these two provinces. Saskatchewan is 18 across the board even with consent. Manitoba is the same as Alberta. I am not certain about the rest.

In Canada, you may enter a child in a tattooing parlour with the written consent of parents, a waiver for the tatooist against infectious hepetitus, and a club to beat off annoyed women!!

i live in Texas and i am 17. I have for tattoos. But the thing is i didn't go to a professional place. The guy does them but it's in his house. but everything is new and clean. i saw him get the needles and everything he is 100% safe. i wouldn't travel to get a tattoo. i would just wait. but like i said i got mine without parental consent. he doesn't care what age you are as long as you don't bring any drama.

I wish that law existed in every state, and I wish it was strictly enforced.

There is a reason for that law, whether you like it or not.

If I would have gotten all of the tattoos I wanted before I was 18, I'd be kicking my own a** right now.

ok Look just wait until your 18 to get it! No tattoo artist in their right mind should tattoo anyone UNDER 18! Just have some patience and wait! It will be worth it in the end! I waited until i was 20 to get my first one! I went on my own with my boyfriend. No mom or dad! I loved it! Just wait and relax on this subject.
