I like mine, especially for under the bed -- it really gets rid of the dust bunnies. I have an older one and it didn't like thick carpet, either, but it's great on hard floors.
Sometimes you have to move the furniture, just like you would when you use a regular vacuum. Of course, it won't vacuum anything above the floor, so you'll still need to do that once in a while.
It is nice to kick it off, go somewhere, and find the floor clean when you get home. I guess some of the new ones let you program when they start, so you don't even have to be there when it goes.

Egads, only if you have clean, sharp floor spaces and no low-lying tables or chairs. We regretted purchasing ours, as it would constantly get sluggish on the shag carpeting, not to mention the 40 point turns it'd attempt. Do yourself a favor and buy a Kirby, they're pricey but they last for decades.
