What is the penalty in california for knocking someone out? one night in the cell, or do u have to be bailed out?

do i need to put a bail bond for this? im so scared, its my bf. God i wish he had just kept his temper. Although the guy was stealing money from him.

More than likely he'll spend the night in jail and get out the next day. Then he'll have a court hearing regarding the charges. IF this is his first offense he MAY be able to plea it down to disorderly conduct, IF the victim agrees. If this is a habit he'll do time and pay lots of court fees.

Okay, there is this thing called self defense. If your bf punched the guy while being the victim of a crime, he shouldn't be arrested. Now, if there is more to the story that changes the outcome. Defending oneself is not a crime. And as for bail, that has to be decided by a judge. It depends on the circumstances, record, etc. If it was decided that your bf WASN'T acting in self defense he may be given a bail amount. But if this is a chronic issue, is a flight risk, or has a record the judge may not set bail and simply hold him.

It depends on how serious is it but you're most likely going to spend at least one night, maybe 2 at tops because you have to be arraigned within 48 hours.

Well battery, assault with bodily injury, could get up to a year! Maybe more depends on the charges the state brings!

Why are you referring to him as your boyfriend? I assure you that if he was appropriately defending himsef against a theft he would not be parked in jail. You need to reconsider who you are associating with. Blatently, he got himself in jail, he can get his dumba## out of jail. You should seek a relationship elsewhere.
