No. I do however believe over the age of three it is. Why? There is no longer any nutritional value to it--it's only the selfishness of the mother.
Self-wean all you want--I'm sorry but some kids would self wean at 23 if you let them. There's just a point in breastfeeding (and potty training) where enough is enough.

No. I think a very fair stopping point is when a child is potty trained. Yes I know some children potty train VERY early. I had a friend with a little girl who was potty trained at 15 months. That would be an exception. I nursed my son until he was 18 months and would have continued for at least 6 months if I didn't start back to college.
I think if the mother is comfortable and the baby is as well why not. It is proven that for every 6 months you nurse a child they get 2 years of immunities from you. Why not give your child the BEST start in life?

Breastfeeding is NEVER child abuse unless you are trying to force an unwilling child to breastfeed (that doesn't work, by the way, unless you use some very coercive methods) or the child for some reason cannot have breastmilk (for example breastfeeding a baby who has a metabolic disorder like PKU where they have to have a special formula to prevent mental retardation. Even with PKU you can breastfeed some but there is a limit. Exceed that limit and it could be considered child abuse.).
I breastfed my daughter until she weaned herself at 2 1/2. When she was done she was absolutely done, but until then she wasn't. Kids know when they need to wean. I am a firm believer that weaning is not something you should do to a child but rather something a child should do when he or she is ready. Quitting breastfeeding early (like a year or earlier) is a cultural thing. In other cultures it is quite acceptable to nurse for several years. Nursing is so good for toddlers- it helps their immunity, their intelligence, and it helps them behave better and be happier kids.

"Child abuse" can be defined as causing or permitting any harmful or offensive contact on a child's body; and, any communication or transaction of any kind which humiliates, shames, or frightens the child. Some child development experts go a bit further, and define child abuse as any act or omission, which fails to nurture or in the upbringing of the children.
I don't see how breast feeding a child of any age could be considered that.
Also keep in mind that many cultures breast feed much longer than the west does, it is a cultural choice to stop so early.

you would comprehend this because you've breastfed perfect? almost about tooth....i comprehend my husband has an finished set of tooth and they by no ability seem to intervene in his interest contained in the breast section. although, in the time of breastfeeding the lady's body secretes a hormone that deadens all sexual favor and so there is no longer any of that happening even as feeding her baby. even as it really is unusual to breastfeed previous 2 years previous ; it remains medically perfect up till 5 although, there are few and far between who do this. no longer all children make the transition to a cup even as being weaned from the breast or the bottle and that's critical for them to be FED nutritiously fantastically in the adventure that they don't get carry of adequate energy from table ingredients no matter if or not they have tooth or no longer. Your tender sensibilities are a sparkling indication that you've neither a operating information of all it truly is entailed with breastfeeding to contain the emotional attachments (animals don't have thoughts), or children. Breastfeeding in ecu international places is fairly worry-free and perfect although discretion is needed in case you're tender. Abuse? NO. obviously you weren't a breast fed toddler.

Breast milk is high in the very nutrients that children need. I believe, if it's possible for both the mother and the child, that the baby should be encouraged to have breast milk until she's out of diapers.
Breast feeding is not a sexual thing but a bonding thing. The abuse happens when society freaks out and calls the mother a pervert for nurturing her young child.

No not it is not abuse. I breastfed until two because I worked in a L&D and they allowed me to pump at work and with a hectic schedule of work, school and other children it gave me special time with my baby when I was tired. I quit b/c I had surgery and was taking medicine that would be toxic. I always ponder did I do this too long? I have a two year old son who likes to see breast and touch grown womens breast.

No, I breast feed my children until they were almost 2. Just could not go any longer. But until maybe 3 is fine, the american board of pediatrics advices women to nurse till 2 when possible. Also I think you will get many views on this but remember until you are a parent of a nursing child & see the health benifts & bonding you will never really understand. My hubby was anti breast feeding and once we had our 1st child he was preaching the all the benifts to any expectant mother/father we know..its a bit embarressing

Absolutely NOT !!! This is part of the bonding phase a child goes through - each child at his or her own pace . Abuse would be denying the child the opportunity to breast feed and bond all-the-more with his or her mother. There is no age limit on it !!! The child will quit on their own when he or she is ready - I promise.

Breast feeding could never be considered abuse as it benefits both parts. You could go to your child's pediatrician if you're uncomfortable with the situation. But I don't think there's anything wrong.

It's not child abuse it's just nursing! Though in society it has become less acceptable to nurse a child once it has hit 1 year or so!
