I own a 1986 K5 Blazer. The 4WD only works in reverse. Not when going forward. The back tires are the only ones that spin. Why will it only work in reverse and not forward?

spinning tires doesnt mean anything, if you keep trying to spin them you are going to break the case or a driveshaft, or worse, stop doing that

make sure you locked the front hubs in, if they are manual hubs, you turn them clockwise to lock them in, and counter clockwise to unlock them

from factory it would have automatic locking hubs in the 80s

it is very rare to get the front tires to spin on a full size 4x4

if the front wheels are really not getting power when you have the 208 case in 4hi or 4 lo then you hvave a problem with the auto locking hubs(very common problme on these) or the case(not a common problem), the chain inside of it could be broken, it is a 208 case, aluminum case, and chain driven

the auto hubs are not know for being reliable and are known for malfunctioning and not locking in on their opwn and requiring frequent disassembly and cleaning and greasing, you are best to buy a pair of warn manual hubs and eliminate the whole problem,

good luck

If you have automatic locking front hubs, they are probably dirty on the inside and are not locking in forward gears.
Jack up all four wheels and check again, the front hub locking devices are the only reason why it would only work in one direction.
