this person left after an argument and left behind the title and keys car doesnt run and is located elsewhere title has not been signed either, but was given to me saying i could have it this is all before the argumentcan i claim the car as mine?

Until the person who is ON the title signs it over to you...it's theirs...not yours.

If Title isn't signed you need to know how your State handles this. Usually an unsigned Title doesn't mean anything because the Title holder can go and get a copy or replacement from the proper authority. Check your local laws and regulations.

some states notarize and others dont, here in IL they dont notarize
the legal owner of a vehicle is the person mamed on the title, period, until it is signed by the owner(seller) to a new owner(buyer) and dated
