What should the parents' attitude towards an ADHD child?

Firm, but loving and understanding discipline. They should recognize that their child is a bright, loveable child who needs love, and structured discipline with clear boundaries. The child's schedule needs to allow for activities that are short and breaks to burn off some energy. School is only an issue because the child is expected to sit for longer periods than they can handle and focus on things for longer than they can focus on one thing. I have a friend who chose to homeschool her ADHD child for just that reason. She developed a schedule of activities that he could live with. Nicest, sweetest, well-mannered boy you've ever seen and no drugs! She worked with his needs and he eventually outgrew a lot of the problems.

Best Wishes,

Sue

I have ADHD, and I know that if someone was strict and consistent, I was so much better behave. Also, its important to give attention that isnt related to the add. Also, if you decide to medicate your child, make sure you explain about the chemicals. I always resented my medicine because i thought it made me into a different person. I dont think i would have made it through school without medicine though.
