There are three types of remote control. Some use the principle of "infra-red" (IR) to communicate with a TV or other device. Some use radio frequency (RF) communication, and some use a wire. For (IR) the remote control needs to be within line-of-sight of the TV, but for RF, it doesn't. For wired remote control operation, you can only go as far away as the wire is long.

In IR remote controllers, IR for ifnra red, different functions are identified by different voltatages at IR frequencies which are sampled at the destinations and converted to numbers and processed as in computing and different functions are thus generated and executed using special purpose computers.
