call an army recruiter and they will fill you in on all of this information!

I would recommend calling an Army Recruiter and asking as many questions as you can think of.

If your not into exercising I would suggest you start. Start small: a 2 minute run, 25 push-ups (maybe just ten if your really out of shape), and definately practice sit-ups (around 30-40 if possible).

You also have to be willing to give up whatever money and time you have. Being in the army does not pay a huge salary, but they take care of you; and so therefor I would just expect to have a lot of changes in the things you spend your money on.

You need to be willing to spend hours just cleaning, caring, and protecting your uniform. In Basic and Specialized Training they will have you do a lot of ironing and boot shing of your BDU's (Battle Dress Uniform) and your service dress uniform. That will be a hard thing for people who are not use to treating clothing with such respect. But after your done you'll probably get ACU's which are the pixel-type uniform that you see on TV these days.

If your not good at eating fast, I recommend you time yourself the next time you sit down to eat. See how long it takes, if it's more than about 5-10 minutes, I'd consider practicing eating faster. In the military they make you take small bites, around 4 chews per bite. You could practice this, however it's sometimes differs between the Army, Navy, Air Force, and Marines (not to mention the Coast Guard).

After all this, talk with a friend, they'll probably see things about you that you don't. They'll be able to tell you their concerns about you joining the military. It's a big commitment. I'd suggest talking to your closest friends first. Maybe even family.

First and foremost, you must have Heart.
Heart to understand that you will be defending the freedoms of those who mock the service and sacrifice of this great nations' military members.
Like the people who leave ugly, and uninformed answers to questions like yours.
Know your interests, and what you're good at.
Research online and elsewhere about those jobs that interest you.
Make a short list (at least 5)of Military Occupational Specialties (MOS) that fit your research.
Go to the Recruiter, and STICK to that list.
If they say the can't but "have a great MOS for you to try" tell them you will come back when one on your list is available-remember, you are in no obligation to join just because you talked to the the Recruiter.
and MAKE SURE that that MOS is in your contract before you sign!
Good luck!

By reading the responses on here we should just disband our military and bend over! The military is an honorable job, for those with balls to protect the people on here that are bad mouthing our military. Just like the comments about killing innocent civilians, making the rich richer, be willing to die for no good reason. These are the people that love the protection that the military provides the US, but find fault with every thing they do. Good luck in the military, some of us actually do appreciate the sacrifice you and your family will be undertaking!

Now why would you want to go out and help rich people get richer.

Read about the "military, industrial complex".

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Military_industrial_complex

In short, President Dwight Eisenhower warned the American (I'm guessing you are American) people of this years ago but noone listened and now it is out of control.

All you will become is a pawn in a scheme to get rich people richer.

These days, when recruiting for the military is going woefully bad, pretty much all you need is 18 years under your belt and a pulse.
