Try a charter company, then you can gain more hours and experience and larger airlines will hire you.

your only real options are banner towing and traffic watch. Look up a company called Aircomm leasing based in LA. They hire people with relatively low time to fly traffic reporters around over LA and San Diego.
Other than that, maybe you could try dropping parachuters, but those companies tend to fly higher performance aircraft and therefore want more time and experience. I can tell you absolutely that you will NOT be able to get any type of airline job at 250 hours. They all publish minimums of at least 500 hours, and usually at least 1000. Also, even if you see a 500 remember that you are competing against other pilots with more time that you so their competitive minimums will be much higher. Oh...and please do everyone a favor and avoid Mesa as much as possible. they are a stain on the industry and treat their pilots like garbage.
CFI is a great option. Its fun, and pays a lot ebtter than most of the other jobs you'll be able to get. There is a shortage of decent CFIs right now, so you'll probably be able to get a job relatively easily.

If you are a CFI, then most probably, you will need to build hours (single and multi) before an airline would hire you. If you are near a beach, then banner towing might be your best best (the phone books would have info about that I would think). If you are in the midwest, then crop dusting is another possibility. It's also possible that you could do sightseeing tours but be careful about that if you aren't part 135 affiliated. :) . Maybe there are some local companies that would hire you to transport packages to various locations.
Talk with someone at your local FAA FSDO; He or she could give you some additional suggestions.
Good luck.

Sorry BarryCh20 ..... cropdusting is no longer a way for low time pilots to build time. 3/4 million dollar turbine aircraft plus environment and liability issues. It's still possible to break in, but you have to be willing to load and sweep hangars for a while.
