There are many forms of meditation that came help you to be calm. Forms of mind-body meditations can also aid in healing. A lot of people confuse what meditation actually is. There is "discursive mediation" which is really just reading the bible and doing some visualization at the same time. The Rosary is also a mild form of meditation. When I think of meditation I think of the more formal methods that still the body and the mind. This type of meditation is done by people of many different religions. Not only can it lead to a deeper relationship with God, but it does have a physiological effect on the body. Lowers blood pressure, etc. It basically puts you in an Alpha brain wave pattern which is very calming. Also a form of prayer called "centering prayer" is a form of meditation that has as its goal contemplation.

Meditation is the most effective. Prayer is good but meditation if done properly can work wonders. Also breathing from the stomach and not the chest will help as well and it is proven to help tension in the back.

I like both. Prayer is a great tool for stress. I also like meditation with soft music and ocean sound or Cd's with meditation hypnosis. Go to Hays house web side they have positive affirmations and meditation. Good luck.

It depends on you. If you're a stron believer in a certain religion than prayer may help, depending your beliefs in your god and your religious beliefs.
Personally I find meditation is much calmer.
There are people can meditate and pray at the same time.

Both, Prayer for the Lord to help you in time of need, and meditation to hear the reply and rejouvinate your spirit.

Prayer can be a form of meditation. The rosary is a deeply contemplative prayer.

I think it depends on each person and their circumstance.
It also depends on what form of prayer or meditation is chosen by the person.
Clearing one's mind during meditation can bring one result, and focused meditation can bring another result.
Prayers of gratitude can bring one result and prayers of begging can bring another result.
It's a situational thing in my opinion.
Good question!

You pray intently and it is meditation! But you should not use prayer as a mean to just calm your stress rather to make your views and your life better.
If you have a different outlook of life.like we do,stress will not be part of your life.
So cahnge your lifestyle, your goals, your views and pray for all those who hate you!

Hypnosis is even better. Heterohypnosis actually, not self-hypnosis.
Prayer and meditation actually produce the same state of brain waves in studies I've read.
