I heard on the news today that in some town the town council told a citizens organizing a Christmas festival not to make it too religious because it might offend non-Christians.

Im sorry but has the world completed turned on its head. The first word of Christmas is Christ. How can you ask people to seperate the two. And what in the world would non-Christian want to participate in a Christmas activity.

I wouldn't go to a Hannukah festival and ask to put away the candles, or an Irish festival and ask people not to wear so much green. Would it make sense to go to a Chicago bull stadium and request more pictures of Lakers be in the building. I just dont get it. We are going PC to the point of insanity.

We will soon be a nation without thought or definition because we will only be allowed to think and do things that doesnt offend somebody. How sad?

You are missing the point. If a group of people wanted to start celebrating the pagan Yule holiday with a festival then great. I love diversity in this country. And as long as your festival wasnt expressing hate towards anyone else or threats of violence then I would be all for it.

My point is that as long as we keep worrying about who gets offended at what, we wont ever be able to do anything

People all over the world need to be more tolerant of Christmas, and celebrating it. Yes, it is sad, and I totally agree with you. You make good points and arguments. Just know that a lot of people agree with you, even when it doesn't seem like it. Have you ever tried to buy christmas paper with a baby Jesus on it, or Merry Christmas anymore? It is becoming increasingly difficult, more often, impossible. Look around and see if I am wrong. Very sad...

I don't think that they should be more tolerant. You are correct, Christ is the reason for the season. However, it is a secular FEDERAL holiday in that everyone gets Christmas off from work, not just the Christians. I think that it is very RUDE for people to get their panties in a wad because they think that Christians are not being inclusive...like you said, the Irish should wear green...but if we aren't going to make it overly religious, then there had not better be any Crescents, Menorahs, ect decorating the place, ither.

Yes, and the origin of Christmas is a Pagan holiday called Yule that was twisted for the celebration of Jesus' birth who wasn't even born in December.

Therefore, how about we go back to the original meaning the holiday and celebrate it as Yule as it should be?

Yeah, I thought you wouldn't agree with that.

Care to try again?

Christians have a nasty reputation for being very "pushy" in their quest to spread their religion. I really would not care if it was religious in nature. but if it is on public land there are certain things that should be refrained from.

such as the politics of gay marriage and abortion.

why might i want to be at a "Christmas "celebration...

well as a Celtic Pagan you are useing all of my traditions and customs. this year you will be 3 days late for my holiday but we have some leeway. maybe i enjoy all holiday celebrations.
maybe i enjoy celebratin for the simple fact that it is an excuese to take some time to enjoy your life. maybe i just happen to be walking through. maybe traffic for the celebration made it impossible for me to continue home and i am stuck watching it.
there are many reasons that someone that is not christian may be there.

is it really too much to ask to just keep the preaching down to a quick telling of the birth of Jesus and some love and goodwill to all men?

I say Merry Christmas because thats what was told to me. If someone else says happy Kwanzaa or Hanhukuh to me, I say thank you. Thats what was told to them. I find Happy Holidays impersonal. I'm an athiest.
Any culture or religion's greeting sounds friendly to me. I feel thier joy and they are projecting that at me..
Do we all want to say the same thing? To think someone would get offended is an example of PC gone bad. People are too thin skinned.

Well it started Pagan, went to Christian and now it's for everyone.

"How sad?"
Not really. Sad is the fact that people suffer and die around the world daily, not that people want holiday celebrations to incorporate more religions than just Christianity.

We should all celebrate the way we want & to hell with anyone who is offended by it. Frankly, I'm offended at all the 'anti-Christmas' propaganda going on. Everyone seems to forget that this is America & we have rights to do things our own way

they took a good thing and made it bad. acting as if "christ" has no sigificance to "christmas".

as the bible says ..."the truth shall be exchanged for a lie and a lie the truth. what is good will be called bad, and what is bad will be called good".
