Sin is anything contrary to the will of God.
But there are different categories of sin.
1 sin is a nature that we all have, we are not sinners because we sin, we sin because we are sinners.
2 sin is an act that we do, if I tell a lie that is a sin. this is called a sin of commission, because I've committed a sin.
3 sin is failing to good, James 4:17 says "Therefore to him that knoweth to do good, and doeth it not, to him it is sin.
This is a sin of omission,
This is only a short definition and the examples I gave are by no means exhaustive if you would like a more detailed list go to biblegateway.com and do a search on the word sin. I hope that helps

Check it out in the Bible.
Basically, breaking any of the ten commandments, however, many prophets added numerous other things that were 'sinful' to do. Many people choose not to follow them because they were not recorded by Moses en route from God, especially since "it is sinful to lie with another man" is clearly stated in the Bible, and that being sinful is something many many object to.
Hope this helps you!

Hi bluebootz,
Sin is being out of favor with God. Break any one of His Commandments and you are there. Good news though, Through Jesus Christ we have an advocate between us and the Father. A Kinsman Redeemer if you will. So you don't have to be walking in sin any longer. Simple huh.><>

Sin is anything,
Not of Faith, Mark 11
Romans 7:7
[ Struggling With Sin ] What shall we say, then? Is the law sin? Certainly not! Indeed I would not have known what sin was except through the law. For I would not have known what coveting really was if the law had not said, "Do not covet."
James 1:13-18
13When tempted, no one should say, "God is tempting me." For God cannot be tempted by evil, nor does he tempt anyone; 14but each one is tempted when, by his own evil desire, he is dragged away and enticed. 15Then, after desire has conceived, it gives birth to sin; and sin, when it is full-grown, gives birth to death.
16Don't be deceived, my dear brothers. 17Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows. 18He chose to give us birth through the word of truth, that we might be a kind of firstfruits of all he created.
Sin is missing God's mark, it is not doing as he has asked ultimately disobedience, their is 3 categories of sin as outlined in Matthew 4:1-11 Lust of the eyes (Have the angels not let Him fall), Lust of the flesh (the bread from stone) and the pride of life (the power over all the earth).

Hi.. sin is essentially the inherited state of imperfection that we as humans endure via Adam and Eves downfall in the garden of Eden. "All men sin and fall short of perfection." The only way to equalize this state was through the giving up of a perfect body (Jesus) and hence our acceptance of him in the faith that we will be rewarded with eternal life, conquering death.

Sin is action taken that causes us to fall short of God's standards, that is characteristic of the carnal nature of humans. This is a generalisation because I can give you many examples but I give you a definition.
All of us have had sin.
Read Romans 3:23 of the Bible.

Anything that goes against what a Christian considers to be against the bible. Since the bible can be twisted so that almost anything is against it, a sin can be almost anything depending on the Christian thats doing the interpretation at the time.
