but how do i ask her out - that's the problem

There's no way around it. You have to stop beating around the bush and just ask her.

don't ask her directly and if you're in love with her don't act like it because it will freak her out at first she will think you're like a stalker or something and not like you. so you should get to know her be friends with her and if she smiles a lot when you talk to her then this is the time to ask her out and then go from there but don't act like you're in love with her it will only freak her out.
