He just likes you better. It must be your personality or some other thing. Parrots have their likes and dislikes. Try to get your wife to approach him slowly, and speak softly too. Have her feed him by her hand, to get him used to her. It's a little strange, as most of the time, male birds like female owners, and female birds male owners.

Birds are alien to us in so many ways. Many of them bond strongly with one person and will fight off all others in the area.

There are a few things that you can do to try to stop this behavior before it progresses:
1: Let her give treats. Let her give new food and water, multiple times a day.
2: YOU put the macaw back into the cage when it's time.

The goal is for the bird to see her as giving good things. This will help balance out the behavior.

Also, have her sit near the bird cage and read a book out loud to the bird. The goal here is for the bird to get used to her presence and being around it. The more she relaxes in it's presence, the better the bird will react to her.

Work on keeping her from being bitten. If she has to handle the bird at all, try having him step onto a perch or stick instead of touching it directly. Bribe the bird with treats and praise.

Good luck!

There are several things that could be causing this...

1. Your mac doesn't like females, its not uncommon for birds to choose one sex over the other, regardless of their own sex.
2. If this bird was yours before the wife came into the picture, it could already be bonded with you, and prefer you.
3. If your wife acts intimidated, then the bird is going to also, with this size of bird you have to be fairly confident.

Those are just 3 off the top of me head. Theres never any guarantee that your bird will like who you want it to! She may just have to grin and bear it! Good luck!

Some pets just choose the person they want to be closest to. Our Macaw did the same thing. They sense the nervousness of us. Perhaps your wife is intimidated by its size?

Your bird is jealous. Try to give the bird a lot of attention. And also have family time where both of you play with the bird. If it doesn't work, you might have to get rid of one or the other.

Usually they bond to one person and are hostile to everyone else. Sorry, it's just the way they are.
From now on all things good and yummy come from your wife. She should spoil him every chance she gets.
Probably won't help though.
Cheers.
