No, Christmas is on a Monday this year. Catholics are expected to go to Mass on Sunday and for Christmas. If you like to go to Midnight Mass, this means you will go to Mass Sunday morning and then again Sunday evening.

Last year, Christmas was on a Sunday and there were many Protestant mega-churches that did not have services for Christmas because they thought that the choir and all the support staff should be home during Christmas.

Christmas is on a Monday this year. Usually if a Holy Day of Obligation falls on a Monday the Holy Day is abrogated. The Sunday Mass will suffice. You do not have to attend Mass on the following Monday. But that is only for January 1, the solemnity of Mary, Mother of God, August 15, the solemnity of the Assumption, and November 1, the solemnity of All Saints. For all others, including Christmas, Mass must be attended on the day of the Holy day. So yes you have to go to Mass on Sunday and Monday (unless you go to the anticipated Mass on Christmas Eve or Midnight Mass).

God bless,
Stanbo

No. Normally Catholics have to go to Mass on Christmas and then also on Sunday. Because the two happen to fall on the same day this year, one Mass will suffice for both. Boxing Day is nothing special for the Church, and so Catholics are not required to attend on that day.

I think you will now be sure that Christmas Day is on Monday this year!
In our church there will be the usual 9.45 a.m Sunday Morning Mass and then, unusually, another Mass, the Christmas Vigil Mass at 8.00 p.m. and this will fulfill the obligation for Christmas Day.
May I wish you a very happy Christmas and a Peaceful New Year .

Christmas is on a Monday, so Catholics are obligated to attend Mass on Sunday, and again on Monday.

Since Christmas is on a Monday you can either go on both Sunday and Monday or to a Sunday morning mass and a Christmas Eve mass Sunday night. One other option would be to go to the Saturday night vigil mass and then go to the Chritmas Eve mass on Sunday night. The choice is yours. I'll probably go twice on Sunday.

You CAN receive communion twice in one day, provided it is for a distinct and separate mass. For example if you go to a Sunday morning mass and then go to the Divine Mercy Sunday mass later that same afternoon.

This year Christmas is on Monday.

Catholics will go to Mass on Sunday, the Fourth Sunday of Advent, and then on Christmas.

Joy to the world!

With love in Christ.

Once on Christmas eve is all an RC or anyone has to do. You can not receive communion twice in one day. I am an Episcopalian and that is close to the RC, but not totally. We don't have a strict "Sunday Obligation" like the RC's do.

We will have one service in the AM and two at night. Most RC's and Anglicans go on Christmas Eve.
