I've heard people say that they just believe what they believe and don't really need proof. That they have complete faith in their religion/spirituality, whatever form it may take, and it isn't really about proof. But I don't really understand how someone cam be content in that state of mind. When I notice that I believe something without any real proof, it motivates me to seek proof or makes me feel like I have been decieved, either by myself or whoever else. That's how my mind works. And I just cannot understand how people can acknowledge a lack of evidence for beliefs on such important existential matters and still be OK with it. Can you help me understand?

Because some of these people have been told from the day they were born that this is the way it is and not to ask questions. When you are told something your entire life you tend to believe it. If your parents, friend, family and everyone in your little world all believe the same thing...why would you ever doubt it. Have you seen The Island? Why did everyone believe in and want to go to the Island?

Well I personally can't speak for others, but I have searched for truth and I mean the real truthand by earnestly seeking it I have found it even so, I have researched to make sure that I am not deceived, so it does not make sense to me to just accept without any proof that's why I havent done that without seeking to get to the bottom of truth to make sure I have the real truth, It takes time it's not easy, but it is possible and can be achieved with some effort.I can understand your point and agree with you I also cannot understand how some people can accept and believe in just anything without acquiring accurate knowledge of those beliefs, and I too seek the real knowledge of truth in the matter of faith and anything else in life, I mean If you had a sickness and went to the Doctor and he said you would need medication, would you then just acquire any pills you could get your hands on, and expect to be healed, with out knowing which medication you should take, would just any medication work to heal you or do you need to know exactly which specific medication will do that healing of your sickness, isnt this in effect what people are doing by not examining if their beliefs are founded by Bible principles

Not everyone is the same. Some individuals find proof overrated. I'm pretty voracious for knowledge - my appetite for understanding has led me through college and to graduate studies in Medieval Literature. However, I'm perfectly content knowing there are things I'll never understand. It's not just a religious thing, either. I'm perfectly content accepting that I'll never know why it is my husband forgets to put the seat down. I'll never know exactly how a microchip functions. I'll never truly know how we have managed to take electricity and force it to do all the amazing things it does. I don't feel I have to know everything or have proof in order to believe everything. That's just how my mind works. I recognize and respect that you're different from me in that regard. Proof holds a huge value to you, and that's totally cool. It's all a matter of perspective.

If I spent my life worrying about what other people think I would get no where! I personally base my faith on the faith of my family and how I was raised. But I also have an inner need for a spiritual walk. But there is one thing that I tried to pass on to my kids. Faith is a powerful thing and there is plenty of proof for that. I happen to Believe in God and Jesus. But even if you don't believe any religion you still need to believe in yourself. Hope you don't mind that answer.

Not really. There is plenty of proof in the existance of God. To me it is not even close to being a blind faith. The truth is, people will always find what they are looking for. My guess is that you decided you didn't want to believe in the God of the Bible, and began seeking information that would support that point of view. Others chose to believe in the God of the Bible, and began seeking information that would support their point of view. And each has found what they were searching for.

For the Bible believers, the scriptures say in 1 Corinthians 1:18:

"For the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God."

So, we are well aware that the "world" will not see the power of God, as the bible has already told us the message of the cross is foolishness to the world.

However, deep in each of us is the nagging question "Is God really real?" You can say you don't believe in God, but the question in your spirit never leaves.

Here is how I explain it, and I hope it doesn't cause more confusion. If God exists, and God is the causal force of existence, then how can you use anything that exists to prove God? The things he caused to exist cannot equal him, therefore they cannot measure him, therefore they cannot prove his existence. But, they can show that "something" exists or else they would not have come into being. I can make a 100% replica of myself, but it is not me, and therefore it alone cannot proove that I exists, only that something exists that created that replica. So existence is in some way an evidence, but there is nothing in the world that can actually be used to proove God, because God is the proof. Hope this helped???

I know what you mean. Just keep searching. I do that with stuff all the time I drive people nuts. Its not just with religion. I think it has something to do with challenging authority. For myself I love to rub people the wrong way to see what kind of conversation/debate will occur, most people are lazy and won't think they just get angry and end of discussion. You will eventually find people that want the answers that you can spend time with and discuss. The only person I have is my husband. I was always told that there are no stupid questions so keep working out your mind.

i have seen the changes in my life. since the time that i began my spiritual path. i have come to know a peacful existence and that is enough for me.

the gods fo the Celts have spoken to me and guided me when i was having some really bad problems in my life. I believe in them because they believe in me. i do not need some scientist to prove to me that they are real. i already know.

to the skeptic no ammount of proof will ever be enough.
to the believer no proof is ever needed.

Ask the supposedly faithful to take their hands off the steering
wheel on the highway when others are absent and let God do the
driving ....? you'll find that you just called the bluff what they profess and what they actually believe are two different things.

It doesn't bother me that I can't prove God to u or anyone, that's why it's called FAITH. It's human nature to ask questions but when it comes to religion, u simply believe or u don't.

I'd rather take my chances on the believers side. :-)
