They believe the catholic church has become corrupt over centuries with indulgences, (letting people buy forgiveness of sins), mixing politcs with religion (in medieval times, kings appointed the bishops, not the pope) with the In the old catholic church only men of noble birth go high in the church, and refaining to say the mass in the native lanuage but in Latin. Most of the reasons Martin Luther actaully critized the church in the 1500's have been done away with as time has passed Also most chirstians who reject catholics don't believe the catholic church is apostolic, (meaning the blessings Jesus gave to each of his 12 followers have been passed down from bishop to bishop). When a person is confrimed into the Catholic faith in the their teenager years or at birth if your Eastern Oxthadrox, they recieve a blessing from the bishop passing on Jesus's blessing to the reciever. Lutheran churches can't claim to be apostolic anyway because Luther was a priest of the faith, not a bishop. Also historical catholic aggression against other chirstian beliefs hasn't help the matter. Ever heard of Arianism Christianity? It's view was that Jesus was tool of God and human but not god himself, and you want to know why you've never heard about it? Becuase in the 300's the Catholic church effectively quelled it's teachings. The point is, since i am catholic, catholics in past hasn't been very tolerant, and other Christian dinominiations are returning our intolerance only 500 years too late. Oh and yes catholics use satutes which some see as idols, and transubstantion, when a priest turns beard and wine into the body and blood of chirst and treated those items, once changed, with reverence is believed to be worshipping idols as well. And one last thing, catholics usually ask the saints to pray with them or to ask God for help for them, (something like a prayer group) which makes some chirstians think the catholics are worshipping the saints. In reflection, besides past corruption, I think alot of chirstians have turned their backs on the catholic church because catholism seems to echo similiar to paganism. Oh and Nathan, we call those catholics C.A.P.E. catholics. they only show up on Christmas, Ash wednesday, Plsam sunday, and Easter.

I think some Christians are turned away by ignorance. Another factor is that Catholics are so disproportionately displayed throughout the media that some Christians will believe whatever they see.
I myself am a protestant Christian who doesn't reject Catholics as Christians. But to me, and we could argue about this all night/day long, there are some Catholics who are Christians, and some Cahtolics who are just church goers.

Well let me try to give you the short answer.
When Martin Luther first broke from the Catholic church to start what would be the foundation for the entire prodestant faith system he didn't just disagree with them about a few things he actually declaired them to be the agents of Lucifer. This is a rather harsh accusation. It would seem that some members of the churches which decended from that original Lutherine church have grandfathered in the general idea that Catholocism is actually evil.
Yah it is certainly silly but at least now you know why.

If following Christ and Christs teachings defines a Christian, the Catholics are partial Christians. They do believe in Christ but they also believe in the 'traditions' of their past leaders, and if there is ever a conflict between Tradition and the bible, tradition wins.
Now for centuries and centuries, the Catholic church has undergone campaigns of murder, torture, and lust for power and land. It wasnt that long ago that if you even dared say something bad about the Catholic church you would be killed as a heretic.
I believe there are many many Catholics who do love Christ but just do not know what true worship is yet. For most the the Catholic history, it was illegal for common worshippers to read and study the bible for themselves. Thats why it was kept in Latin for so long. Through this, the church could get people only to obey what their leaders and Popes said and be as ignorant as possible about whats in the bible.

Because Catholic doctrine contradicts the Bible in many, many ways.
These include:
* the near-worship of Mary - a human (don't even need scripture to point out the problem with that - but there is heaps if you look)
* forbidding Nuns/bishops/etc to marry (See 1 Timothy 4)
* saying that you need a priest to interpret the Bible for you (See 1 John 2:27)
These are just to mention a few.

Well I don't reject them, I know some very wonderful Catholics. But when I was married my former husband was not allowed to be Godfather of his only brothers child because we used birth control & his sister in law swore that we would burn in hell because we smoked & cursed. So I was kind of turned off.

ignorance. pure and simple..
if you go b what many of them say, you'd think there were no "real"christians walking the earth for the first 1500 years.
many protestants forget so easily that catholicism was christianity for 1500 years. their churches are rooted in the catholic church.
if only they'd do a little investigation.....they could see what they are rebelling against.
only one institution in the world has lasted for 2000 years......
and it isn't because of the power of man....

i do not understand. believe me as a baptist, ive heard the worst about catholics my whole life, but my bias is counter balance because my dad's side is catholic. i hate the fact that there are divisions within the christian faith, i think it is crippling us as a whole. i know that i do have several problems with catholocism, but i also have problems with pentacostals too. as true brothers and sisters of the faith, are we not all aiming for the same goal?

Praying to Mary, praying to statues, the wafer literally becoming Jesus, repititious prayers - the list goes on.
Like the bible says - they preach another Jesus.
I'm an ex - catholic by the way. I still love Catholics but I stay away from the institution.
