Please, I want just specific answers to this. I am a Christian, and I don't understand why you are not supposed to cut your hair. Is it specific in the Bible, or is it having to do with man's literal interpretation of what is stated? I, for one, have researched the history of the pagans then, and understand why it was admonished then, by why has it carried over into today?

It has to do something with the Epistle Paul wrote to the Corinthians.

This is just in regards to a discussion I had with a co-worker, and she could not explain why, and I would like to know why. I volunteer with my 2-year-olds at church, plus other stuff. This is just curiosity coming out. By the way, she goes to a different church I do. This is not within my church.

There is no sin in such a thing. That sounds like legalism to me. As well as quite foolish. The bible never specified this to be wrong.
Paul only mentioned a womans hair is her glory. Not so as to not cut it.

It is totally a cultural thing that is fairly irrelevant now. When you come across things like this you should try to grasp the general principle behind the statement. For instance, women in that time who did not wear head coverings were usually prostitutes, and exposed hair made guys lust, so Paul told them to wear head coverings. This is irrelevent today in its literal sense, but the principle that can be learned is that girls should not dress so revealingly that they cause all the guys in church to lust over them. As for cutting your hair, I really don't see a tranferable principle here.

Because some people take the Bible too literally, that's all.

By the way, not all churches are like that, and the Sikhs forbid cutting of hair for both genders.

1 Corinthians chapter 11 verses 3-16. This should cover the subject well. You see that the Lord said that a woman should have her head covered when praying or prophesying, and that He gave women long hair for that covering. It is a glory to her....

You're right about the source, but (as with much of the Bible) different denominations adhere to the rules in their own fashions. Apostolics, in particular, adhere to the hair rule. Cutting hair is seen (as it was by Paul) as a woman's lack of deference to God. I don't know. I've always cut my hair and no one has ever said anything, so I guess it's in the church you attend.

It is not a sin to cut your hair, and the tradition has not been carried over to today.

I used to attend a church that taught that women couldn't cut their hair, and they were the meanest, most judgmental hypocrites I have ever met in my life. Jesus died to free us from outward rules and traditions.

Stay away from whoever is telling you that this is a Bible doctrine, because it is not. And please read Galatians chapter five. It will set you free.

It like many other things that people beat their bibles about is a tribal law that made a lot of sense at the time. (Short hair was considered to be barbaric and utilitarian) If anyone gives you flack about it just remind them of some of the other things that the bible says.

1) Stone to death disobedient children
2) Never eat pork
3) Kill anyone who works on the Sabbath day
4) If you curse at your parents you are to be killed (Leviticus20:9)
5) Gay people are evil

If your accusers actually follow all of the laws mentioned in Leviticus then they might be able to tell you about following the bible word for word.

Let's be real. I am pretty sure that God has more things to worry about than whether someone shaves off their hair or not.

Why not spend your free time doing some useful charity work (non-missionary) as opposed to investigating Biblical laws surrounding hair cutting.

Admonish the sinner not the hair style. This just gives more credence to non-god beliefs and life styles .Commom sense...?

It is a sin if you took the vow of the Nazerite. Jesus was a Nazerine, thus contrary to popular opinion, he did not have long hair. It is a shame for a man to have long hair according to scripture. The Shroud of Turin is a phoney because it clearly depicts a man with long hair.
