What does your sneeze sound like?

I have a cold and I am pretty self-conscious about my sneeze. It is pretty loud and not-very feminine - kinda like hu-hu-HASCHOO! I get embarrassed because it seems like most girls have a more petite sneeze. Does anybody else sneeze really loud and what can I do to be more quiet when I sneeze?

I can't hold my sneezes in, it makes me feel like my head is going to explode! I tried to hold one in once but I ended up making a sillier noise than if I had just let the sneeze come out naturally!

It's a good idea to keep tissues with you so that you can grab one and sneeze into it with your hands at your nose and mouth. That can muffle the sound a little.

You can actually break bones in your face if you try to stifle a sneeze as others here have suggested--a VERY bad idea!

I don't try to do anything about the sound when I'm alone. When I'm in public, I grab my tissue as I said above, and turn away from others and try to allow some of the air coming from the sneeze out through my mouth.

My sneeze usually sounds like a cough. I used to wonder why no one said "bless you" when I sneezed. Then I found out that people thought I was coughing! But you know what? I can make my sneeze loud or not so loud at all. I just don't know how to explain how I do it. I can just do it. If you feel a sneeze coming on, grab a tissue and sneeze into it. This will muffle the noise a little bit.

Everyone tells me my sneeze sounds like a dog sneeze. You don't hear my voice when I sneeze and you don't hear anything until the actual sneeze comes and even then it's not that loud. If you've ever heard a dog sneeze, that's pretty similar to the way I sneeze.

Don't feel embarrassed about sneezing loud. You can't help it, it's just the way you sneeze naturally. There is nothing wrong with it.

mine also sounds like a cough. lol! but anyways just let it out naturally. but be sure you have a hanky all the time so the sound won't be as LOUD and don't try to supress it or whatever because the supressed sneeze sounds funnier and more embarassing hehe. people will also take notice of you more if you show that you are self conscious of it. my mom sneezes so loud that i feel like my eardrums hurt a little each time. but people don't really care as long as you cover with a hanky.

Your sneeze is like your laugh-- it is unintentional and automatic and cannot be distorted by your dislike of it-- sorry. If you try to hold in your sneeze, you can seriously injure your eardrums so just let it out- and dont be conscious of it- think of the girl on TV who when she laughed she would snort like a pig when inhaling--( I actually had a friend that laughed like that), so it could be worse.

I feel your pain. I have a cold right now, and most of the time I sneeze twice. A little while ago I was walking into my house when I sneezed and my next-door neighbor said "Bless you! Bless you!"

It's over before you know it, so why worry about natural body functions? Nobody worries about how your sneeze sounds. If you are that concerned, carry a kleenex tissue and sneeze in that. I hope you feel better soon.

You vocalize while you sneeze. You do it unconsciously. Your sneeze will be quieter if you learn how to turn off your vocal cords while you sneeze.
Mine sounds like pbbfeeeew! if I don't cover it, but I usually cover in public. I worked in restaurants for years and I learned to kind of swallow my sneezes and they would go ksniks, aah.
My wife sneezes loud and scares the cats. It's funny though, so I leave her alone about it.

I'm not sure what my sneeze sounds like, but every time I sneeze, it sets off seismographs and they issue global Tsunami warnings. In other words - I am loud.
