brother! the humans of this day and age are the filth of the earth pardon my language!!
we are nothing compared to those great people who were tolerant to each others differences and knew how to get along.
Muslims back then were totally different they were men of God, Knowledge and Honor.

He used to be called "Ibn Sina" but in Western World as Avicienna. He is "the Father of Modern Medicine" after his marvellous piece of medical encyclopedia in "al Qanun fi al Tibb" or in Western "Canon of Medicine".
Of course, he also do corrections on several ancient medical discoveries including blood circulation theory from the Father of Ancient Medicine; Hippocrates. Until today, he's the best figure in medical field.

If he was alive today, it doesn't matter, since the serpent was released around 400 years ago and go out to deceive nations.
There's a good chance Ibn Sina probably would be assasinated to increase more on the distressing rift, sorta like the recent Litvinenko event or the attempt done by a 'Turkish' on John Paul II.

I did not know that name and looked it up. As soon as it said Avicenna then I knew who you meant. Yes he was the most famous Doctor and Professor of medicine in Europe for over 400 years.

Yes, also known by his latinised name of Avicienna (980-1037CE). He wrote about beauty, earth sciences, philosophy, numbers and medicine.
One of his works, translated from arabic to latin, was the encyclopaedia of philosophy and earth sciences ("Kitab Al-Shifa") which inspired Leonardo Da Vinci.

Thanks for the question as well as its very adequate answer. To the West, he is known very well with his westernised name. That is Avicenna, the Philosipher, Mystic, Physician, Scientist... Like the other great Muslim philisopher's westernised name Averrous. His Muslim name was Ibn e Rushd of Spain.
