It seems to me that they have recruitment and containment in common. In both religions you are taught that you are right and everone else is wrong and to make everyone else believe it too. You are taught that your religion is the only true religion...all others will go to hell.
I think they are Wastern and Eastern mirrors of each other.

I would like to point out that the article cited by another answerer (mhm) has some good points but also some inaccurate or outdated points. Women are not subservient in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and anyone who preaches or practices polygamy is subject to discipline and ex-communication. Temple language quoted only in part in that article is also outdated and no longer accurate at all, by at least 16 years' time and possibly longer. Also, it was not just an angel who appeared to Joseph Smith, it was actually God the Father and Jesus Christ on the first occasion. The angel Moroni appeared to Joseph Smith on other occasions to prepare him to receive the gold plates for the purpose of translating the Book of Mormon. I do think that Muslims and Mormons both have high standards and great devotion to families. Have a happy day.

They are very similar. There are much more similarities then what I write below. But here are just two examples where their teachings both clash with the Bible in a very similar way.

Both founders claim to have had a new revelation from God given by the archangel Gabriel. "But though we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel unto you than that which we have preached unto you, let him be accursed." (Galatians 1:8).

Muslim - Jesus was a prophet only; Mormon - Jesus Christ is not the eternal Word of God , but was formerly an angel etc.)  "Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God: because many false prophets are gone out into the world. Hereby know ye the Spirit of God: Every spirit that confesseth that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is of God: And every spirit that confesseth not that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is not of God: and this is that spirit of antichrist, whereof ye have heard that it should come; and even now already is it in the world." (1John:1-3)

Just a quick note - sounds like you already have your mind made up about us as LDS anyways - we don't believe "everyone else will go to hell"...We believe in 3 levels of "heaven" and depending on your faithfulness, covenants, promises, etc...(works some call them) and then of course it is up to the Lord which of the 3 kingdoms a person will attain glory in...

Mormons believe that most people will go to heaven, even if they're not Mormon. We allow everyone to worship how, what or where they want and ask only for the same privilege.

It sounds like you're trying to start something. At least have the facts when you try that.

Well, I'm LDS and I was just talking to a Muslim today. We both realized that we had rather strict eating codes. We both aren't allowed to have alcohol, but she could still have coffee while us mormons wont. She couldn't eat pork and us mormons could. The Muslims believe in some prophets that we don't necessarily have a stance on, and we have some prophets... some living, that to my knowledge the Muslims don't believe in. Hope that this answers some of your question... if you have more questions E-Mail me and I'll see if I can answer them.

They both believe that God gave a third book of the Bible to their prophet.

This makes them different from traditional Christians (while having a false prophet does not).
