My dog stole many a chocolate doughnut from me when we were younger.
She lived till I graduated and moved out.
Your dog should be ok I'm sure since chocolate isn't a regular part of his diet. Just give him some water and don't worry. I'm sure he's eaten other things worse than hersheys kisses while prowling around outside : \

It really depends on the amount of chocolate the dog ate. A large quantity could be serious, but only a few pieces should be fine. However...if you are afraid that the dogs may have eaten too much, you can induce vomiting by giving them peroxide...about 1 teaspoon per 20lbs....if you dogs weigh about 60 lbs, then give them 3 teaspoons....if they don't vomit within about 10 minutes or so you can give them another dose....be aware...they will foam at the mouth and look like they are going to pass out just before they vomit...and they will throw up quite a bit...make sure you put them in a place where it will be easy to clean up, or take them outside. Good Luck!

How many dogs, what size, how many kisses? If these are large dogs and they ate a small bag of kisses, there will probably be no ill effects. If the dogs are small like chihuahuas, a few kisses could be deadly to them. You can give them a spooful of peroxide follwed by some water, and this should make them throw up. Repeat it a time or 2 until you no longer see chocolate in the vomit.

How long ago did your dog eat the chocolate? My min pin ate two whole chocolate bars one time and she is still alive!!! Anyways what we did was just watched her during the night. All she did was kept throwing up and we would have her drink some water to keep her from dehydrating I don't really know how long we were with her, but she finally got all better. I know this may not be much help but I just stayed with my dog and everything worked out fine. I hope your dog feels better.

I believe it goes like this 1 once of chocolate per pound of dog So twenty pound dog +2 ounces of chocolate= never good but within safe limits
now 20ounces of chocolate +20 pound dog= very very bad( its poison to them and could damage/shut down organs)
3$ go buy ipecac at walgreens and with a few minuted he will up chuck
If your within safe limits and can't get to walgreens or like place that call vet in the morning and keep a close eye on your dog.if it your regular vet they can bill you later or take a charge card

My vet told me that regular chocolate if eaten in moderation won't hurt your dog. However, Baker's Chocolate can be fatal to your dog. Under no circumstances should you give your dog Baker's Chocolate. It works like an amphetamine in humans but does the opposite in dogs. It will slow their heart down and depending on how much they had (and it doesn't take much) it can stop their heart. I think Hersey Kisses will be okay with your dog, but don't take anymore chances....put all of your chocolate where your dog can't get to it. Wish you the best.

The reason vets and animal specialists tell people to avoid giving your pet chocolate is because it is EXTREMELY addictive to animals and once they've tasted it, they will crave it and crave it and if they were given a chance, they would eat an entire chocolate cake if they could! And THAT is when it becomes lethal!
Chocolate contains theobromine. A naturally occurring stimulant found in the cocoa bean, theobromine increases urination and affects the central nervous system as well as heart muscle. While amounts vary by type of chocolate, it's the theobromine that is poisonous to dogs.
The amount of chocolate in Hershey kisses is minimal. But I don't know how big your dogs are so check out the following chart, it should give you an idea if your own pals are headed for trouble..
* White chocolate: 200 ounces per pound of body weight. It takes 250 pounds of white chocolate to cause signs of poisoning in a 20-pound dog, 125 pounds for a 10-pound dog.
* Milk chocolate: 1 ounce per pound of body weight. Approximately one pound of milk chocolate is poisonous to a 20-pound dog; one-half pound for a 10-pound dog. The average chocolate bar contains 2 to 3 ounces of milk chocolate. It would take 2-3 candy bars to poison a 10 pound dog. Semi-sweet chocolate has a similar toxic level.
* Sweet cocoa: 0.3 ounces per pound of body weight. One-third of a pound of sweet cocoa is toxic to a 20-pound dog; 1/6 pound for a 10-pound dog.
* Baking chocolate: 0.1 ounce per pound body weight. Two one-ounce squares of bakers' chocolate is toxic to a 20-pound dog; one ounce for a 10-pound dog
If you are still worried, just watch your dogs. Look for the following signs and if it gets terrible (I doubt it will) you can go through the Emergency ward of a Pet Hospital and they help your guys and bill you later.
Signs of chocolate poisoning: Within the first few hours, the evidence includes vomiting, diarrhea or hyperactivity. As time passes and there's increased absorption of the toxic substance, you'll see an increase in the dog's heart rate, which can cause arrhythmia, restlessness, hyperactivity, muscle twitching, increased urination or excessive panting.
This can lead to hyperthermia, muscle tremors, seizures, coma and even death.
But again, I SERIOUSLY doubt Hershey chocolate (even a bags worth) will cause your pets any real problems.

its not a stupid question. My puppy doja mea has always had an addiction to candy, The first time she got her hands on chocolate it was a full one pound hershey bar, and she ate it all.. she was fine, she also used to take nerds and rip the box open and eat them all.. she new she was being bad,,, but she would do it anyhow. The only time to really worry is when he or she is having stomach pain. Doja got really sick, not from chocolate, but from her nerds adventure, i took her to the vet she was not being her self and found out she had "diabetes" we had to change her diet, to save from injections. but i dont think you have a problem, i think they will be fine.

it kind of depends on the size of the dog & the amount he eat! did they still have the rappers on them?? if so, this will be a concern too! keep a good eye on the dog! if it starts vomiting alot, stopes eating for a day or two, or has blood in it's stools it really needs to get check!! don't freak now, but what to see any of these things! if they happen, you may want to contact your father to find a way to get it to the vet.!! hope this helps some!! :)

Our dogs are over 10 yrs old, and has always ate chocolate in some form or another (chocolate bars, fudge, cake, brownies, etc...etc.. dark chocolate, white chocolate, milk chocolate...) and not once have they even had a stomache ache. Unless your dog is sensitive to it, I am sure your dog will be fine.
