He actually left the sport of boxing very bitter. In an unofficial interview conducted at an On-line Boxing Forum He stated that his main reason for leaving the sport was because of all the people spelling his name wrong. Poor Guy.

No Lennox Louis retired because it was time to do so, he had done all he could and now it was the right time to retire while he was still champion and on top of the world.

Lennox Lewis never ducked a fight during his time as champion. In his last fight a mandatory defense against Vitali Klitsko he look awful and was lucky to win. He retired as he realised that his time was up. Its not that he was scared he was smart, he realised that he was pushing 40 and had achived what he wanted to achive and had fought all the top fighters of his generation, apart from Riddick Bowe who didn't want to fight him anyway. Too many fighters fight on to long and i was glad to see him retire when he did.

Lennox made multi millions of dollars fighting Tyson, Holyfield, Rahman, Tua, Klitchko...ect....All the big names at the time he was on top. He was the unified undisputed champion for years. He was not scared at all. He won 12 of last 14 fights for the Championship and was one of only a handful of fighters who Retired as a Champion.
There comes a point when you decide to hang them up and for Lewis it came after he beat Klitchko.

He got lucky in his final fight. Klitschko had a big cut in the head and the fight was stopped even though he was way ahead in scoring. Smart guy though to retire. He retired on top and he knows very well that it's time before he gets hurt.

no lennox lewis did not retire coz he was chicken,it was coz he had beaten all the best fighters out ther, tyson, holyfeild, klitchco,he had nothing else to prove,i dont see why he had to prove himself with klitchco for the second time when he beat him the first time,i think he deserves a lot of respect and in my opinion he is one of the greatest heavyweights of all time.
