Someone said all prophecies were written hundreds of years before the events and all have been proven. They may have been proven but I don't agree they have been proven to have been written before the event occurred. Please show me any document that was written before an event in the Bible occurred.

Is there copies of the old testament in existence that were written before the events in the new testament occurred? Maybe the dead sea scrolls were I'm not sure. Can someone tell me when they were written? I don't consider being born in Bethlehem fulfilling a prophicy many babies were born in Bethlehem and still are they are not the messiah. I'm not even sure that Jesus was born in Bethlehem? I see no harm in raising these questions if your faith is solid it can handle it. XX Betty.

Someone said that many people have not read the bible. I have completely read the bible and studied much of it. Still there are many things I have forgotten and many things I didn't understand. That is the reason for my questions, I have no ulterior motive to discredit anyone please understand that. XX Betty.

Here is the deal...either you believe the BIBLE or you do not. You do not have to Understand all of it but you either accept it by faith or you reject it.

Hi betty, Biblical Prophecy is unlike Other prophecies. Why? Because Biblical Prophecies is 3 fold while other prophecies tend to foretell the future.

Biblical Prophecies will have the past, present and the future all roll up in one. So a person could see it from an angle that is different from another. They can have different perspective of the same verse. Understanding this, when we disect biblical prophecies, we need to know, what is the prophecy reffering to in the past, what was happening in the present and what is God going to say that will happen in the future.

1) the past (refers to the works of God)
2) the present (refers to to the ways of God)
3) the future (refers to the will of God)

I just wonder how many of them were actually written after the event?
Usually they are written during an event. Meaning to say, that perhaps the prophet saw the nation of Israel in sin. So he will write to remind israel of the past, he write to show what is happening in the present and he will write if they do no repent, a certain event might occur. It is all rolled up in 1.... so sometimes when we readit, we do not understand. then another element is added into this dimension of prophecy and that is the birth of the messiah and his return again. So now it gets even more complicated.

And how many were self fulfilling?
Most of the events that happen are very hard events to be self-fulfilled. but if you mean like if a priest found a part of a prophecy that was lost and read it and realize that the nation of Israel has to fulfill a certain task.. then the elders will call for an assembly and everyone will try to fulfilled their role in that prophecy Like King Cyus or like the rebuilding of the temple in the time of nehemiah .... then i suppose so that you can call it self fufilling. But how many? hahaha...too lazy to count.

Can we be sure any of the Biblical prophecies truly occurred?
Yes, we can be sure...hmmm... there are a lot actually.... i will just post a website here and you can check it out and of course those that make mention of Jesus, muslims will choose to differ in opinion to certain extend but they will agree also that those prophecies are fulfilled.

Betty, the bible is very simple... it started with a relationship between 2 friends, God and Adam and it will end with a relationship... the marriage supper of the Lamb. The rest of the bible is about choices. Good choice and Bad choice..

Saul made a bad choice so his kingdom was taken fro him. Abraham made agood choice so Salvation was found in his seed..Solomon made a bad choice so his kingdom was divided... and so on..

So that we can learn from them and learn that Good choices are made when we decide to follow after a Good God. Thats all and how can we partake in this marriage supper of the Lamb. The prophets in the bible are not so much about their prophecies but about their relationship with God. So in their prohecies... they are trying to encourage their own people to go back unto God. Thats it the summary of the whole bible.

Hope this helps betty

I recommend a study of the Dead Sea Scrolls. There is a great resource book written by Josh McDowell that has a lot of information in it concerning their importance to the Christian faith. It is called "The New Evidence that Demands a Verdict".

The book of Isaiah contains well over 100 prophecies about the coming Messiah. Prophecies such as, He woud be born in Bethleham, would be betrayed for 30 pieces of silver, the betrayel money would be used to buy a field, etc. Over 100 prophecies, all came true in the life of Jesus.

Up until the discovery of the Dead Sea Scrolls, the oldest copies of the old testament books was about 1000 A.D. This created skepticism about the accuracy of the current Bible, and specifically the prophecies that were said to be true about Jesus' coming. Then came the discovery of the Dead Sea Scrolls. They have been dated to 100 - 150 B.C., which was long before Jesus lived on the earth. The book of Isaiah was practically word for word (about 8 minor spelling differences, but didn't change the meaning) in line with the book of Isaiah found in the Bible today. It was a great discovery, and validates the accuracy of the Prophecies that came to pass with 100% accuracy in the man called Jesus of Nazereth.

No, we can't be sure that any of the Biblical prophecies ever truly occurred. The "prophecies" were interpreted after the fact. Some of them were invented many years after the events they were supposed to have predicted.

The Bible is a collection of books that were being used by Christians in the early eras of Christianity. They were collected and made into "The Bible" about 400 AD. A lot of books were rejected (the Gospel of Thomas and the Gospel of Mary Magdalene among them) because the teachings in the books did not agree with the group of Christians who created the Bible out of all these books. (There were many Christian groups at the beginning of Christianity, and they did not all agree.)

The prophecies are so loosely written that they could mean almost anything. Modern preachers use "prophecies" to frighten people to join their church out of fear of Hell and fear of the End Times. As a spiritual guide and help, in my opinion, they are very nearly useless.

All of the old testament was completed by about 400 BC, and it contains hundreds of prophecies and "types" relating to only one person, Jesus Christ, who not only fulfilled all the prophecies, many over just a few days, but also rose again from the dead, and personally claimed as much.

The early believers who lived in the times of the apostles would have known whether these things were true or not, as plenty of eye witnesses existed at the time.

Ooh! The Book of Daniel is the only book, that even scholars and Historians will -all- agree is authentic prophecy. It was written something like 487 years before the events took place. You can actually look up in Encyclopedia's the time of the prophecy, and the time of the fulfillment, and it is exactly that time later that was prophecied, and what happens fulfills the prophecy. It was either 487, or 483 years later..can't remember. Other books of prophets though, many will argue that the books were written after the prophecies were fulfilled, but the Book of Daniel is -PROVED- as authentic prophecy. Hallelujah!

There are hundreds of prophecies in the Bible relating to the Messiah (Jesus). Some of these he had control over fulfilling, but many he did not. He couldn't choose which town he would be born in, or that Herod would order the death of the male children in that area. This is just a small sample of the Biblical prophecies which came true.

Well Betty, I am new to Christianity. I have only been borned again for about 3yrs. I am learning more everytime I read the Bible. I do believe that the Bible is the inspired word of God. I also agree that if you have a question about bible prophecies, Irvin Baxter is the one to ask. He has spent his whole adult life studying bible prophecies. He is the founder of,"endtime.com "and the radio show," Politics and Religion."

Yes Israel being reborn was prophecy fulfilled. There is more to come. Ezekial 38 and 39 still have to pass followed by the Rapture and Revelation 6.

Well we've seen prophecies occur in our day (or near to it if you are younger). Israel becoming one nation preceded by a major genocide. Ezekiel 37.

What I don't like is when people prescribe common events to fulfilled prophecy. For instance, if there is a prophecy about a fire, and someone says that a forest-fire in California IS that fire that was predicted. Personally I don't dwell much in the prophecies because I don't need to see predictions fulfilled before my eyes to believe.
