I got this from a link someone posted...Has anyone heard of this?
Do you think it is true?

"Mithras was born in a cave, on December 25th around 300 BC of a virgin mother. He came from heaven to be born as a man, to redeem men from their sin. He was know as 'Savior,' 'Son of God,' 'Redeemer,' and 'Lamb of God.' With twelve disciples he traveled far and wide as a teacher and illuminator of men. He was buried in a tomb from which he rose again from the dead -- an event celebrated yearly with much rejoicing. His followers kept the Sabbath holy, holding sacramental feasts in remembrance of Him. The sacred meal of bread and water, or bread and wine, was symbolic of the body and blood of the sacred bull. "

oh, the messiahtruth site :) its one of my faves

you may not have noticed but at the very top of the main page above the strip where the word shalom is written over and over in hebrew, you will find drop down menus to look at more interesting stuff. click on the one that says "knowing your orchard"

EDIT

ohhh... i remember now. i'm kind of off today lol. what story do you mean? of mithras? you could probably find all kinds of information on mithraism on the net. there is not a lot judaism has to say about it, the web site was just pointing it out to show the pagan origins of christianity

If this really was a story then it would be no different than God revealing shadows of the prophecy of Jesus in the Old Testament.

Abraham was going to sacrifice Isaac, his son. This is a clue about what is to come when Jesus was born.

The life of Jesus is verifiable by even the writings of non-Christians. But the Mithras you are talking about is a myth or a prophecy of the coming of Jesus at best.

I'm not a christian; I'll try to explain the common dynamics here. When Christianity spread, it incorporated and leveraged existing stories, myths, rituals, and beliefs of the differerent cultures to present its teachings. It intentionally did this, like ALL religions do when they spread. They use the familiar and reinterpret existing symbols to present the new teachings. Buddhism did this when it spread from country to country. It's important to understand this -- too many people think they've landed the major coup de grace to christianity by thinking that christianity's fraud is being exposed. It couldn't be further from the truth: again, christianity intentionally used existing myths and stories to present their teachings (the myths are meant to point to a deeper reality but the problem is that many take the myths to be literal).

almost all major religions have had rumors that "this was copied from this."

like some people believe jesus stole some of Kirshna's[hindu [prophet] life. others believe it comes from paganism.

islam.. lots say it came from paganism and christianity.

the Bible is a complicated book, and unless you do intensive research, there will also be questions. we will never know if the story of christ was stolen.. all we can do is wait until we die to find out.

now you can believe what you want, as long as you don't force your religion or religious laws on me!

good luck.

Most of the NT is borrowed theology...but I could care less as long as it makes some people act like better human beings.

Of course it was. There are alot of immaculate births in religious history. Christianity stole much of it's religion from others.
