over 20 years ago I had a dramatic experience and now need to remember a name , although I should be able to I simply can't. I have heard the brain blocks out some things, how do I remember

Short of hypnosis or truth drugs, I make the following suggestion:

Take the white pages from a large city and slowly go through the various names.

Perhaps, a Name will trigger your memory. Maybe.

Write down all 26 letters of the alphabet, and see if one or more stick out for you as you try to think of the name. Or go through a baby book and usually, every first name imaginable will be in there. If you get the first name, the last name might just come to you. You could also get in touch with old friends that might be able to help you remember. Good luck. I know this can drive you crazy.

You could go to a professional hypnotherapist, or learn to do self-hypnosis to try to trigger the memories of the experience. I've heard of hypnotherapy being used in crimes to help witnesses remember things like facial features and license plate numbers.
