I got a speeding ticket in Woodbridge, NJ for doing 52mps in 25mph zone. Cop tells me I was doing 52 and can step out of the car and check his radar. I did. I saw "50". He said It's 50+2, total 52. He didn't explain what that meant. I did not wanted to argue with him. It's 4-point ticket and so I got the court date for dec. 14. What do I tell the judge or prosecutor? Please help! I'm really fed-up.

Thanks!

Radar is simply not foolproof, get a lawyer who specializes in speeding tickets and will guarantee to get you of on a technicality....and it will be the truth too!. Radar as they use it just is not dependable to use for proving a person guilty!!!
Look in the local phone book. or maybe on the net ...but they are out there and if they guarantee ...they are not lying. and last but not least ..slow down....25 is residential..do you want to kill some kids ??.......

Peace

I doubt the 2 mph discrepancy will make a difference in a judge's mind because you were going twice the speed regardless - however, I believe you do have the right to request records from the police dept. as to when the radar gun was last calibrated, whether the person using it was properly trained to do so, etc. It might at least straighten out the questionable +2 issue if you're more concerned with addressing this out of principle than getting out of a ticket that you actually deserved.

I suggest getting kicked in the head by a mule and going cross-eyed. Then you can tell them you thought you were going exactly the speed limit and go for the sympathy ruling. 25 vs. 52 is an easy mistake for you then.

Well first off ask to see his training records or his permit to run a speed measurement device...ie license.

second check with your local clerks office if the speed limit isn't recorded in their office then the ticket is no good.

then ask yourself why is it +2...that's b.s. I'm telling you any speed measurement device works off of an exact speed not a speed plus 2. trust me that alone will get you off of it.

It doesn't matter. You were still going way too fast and the judge isn't going to let it go for 2 mph. Slow down!!! I would hate for you to possibly kill or severely injure someone.

Find a mechanic that you or someone knows and have them write up a letter stating your speedometer was off(shows a lower then actual speed) and a bill showing they worked on it and fixed it. It will save you some of a headache.

You were going twice the speed limit, you are screwed no matter what.
