The village had to close down and sell everything because they had to pay the court because it got sued for 'caring!!'

if more parents were like Danille that answered, we could go back to being a village.

If people would look at it the right way, maybe they wouldn't be so objectionable to accepting the villages help.

1. Parents aren't always home, some of them have to work, so the child is with a sitter; who is watching the sitter watch the kids? The Village

2. If a child is getting into trouble at the opposite end of the block and the lady knows the childs mom and calls her; who cares about the childs best interest? The Village

3. If a child is swearing and the parent would have a fit if they knew; who would call that parent so they could take care of it? The Village

4. If neighbors actually cared about other peoples welfare and feelings who would benifit? The Village

Let's all move and start a Village, I bet it would be the biggest town on earth; because we care.....

There are a lot of parents now who have too many of their own things going on that they don't have time to know what's going on w/ their children, so when the "village" tries to discipline a child who has done wrong, the parent who doesn't care to know what's going on seems to,now, assume that their child can do no wrong, so they defend their child for the wrong reason, not knowing what really goes on, so now a days people really don't like to get involved. Or now a lot of grown ups are just selfish and don't too much worry about our future generation if it's not their own, Sad but that's how it is now.

People have become selfish, and self centered. This day in age if something dosen't fit in with are ideal life , or generate money,or get recognized for our warm and fuzzy feelings, we don't want any part of it. Children are no longer viewed as the next president, or doctor that may save their lives but judged as the little criminal who need help only ritalan can take care of.

When I was a kid, ANY adult in the neighborhood had automatic permission to discipline any kid who got out of line.
Unfortunately, the villagers are now all inside playing Wii.

"It takes a village" apparently means something different to you than it does to me. I'm sure whoever coined the phrase wasn't thinking "it takes a village of parents smacking each other's kids around to raise a child".

What's your deal with being so into smacking kids? Do you ever ask anything else? I'm sure there are more topics that interest you....

Some people still go by that principle. The people who are part of the village are what's changed is all. I was raised by my mother, my daycare providers, and my babysitters. All of them were considered like family. And I loved all of them...and they all taught me things that a parents would teach their child. And they all on occasion spanked my butt too. Quite a few people use that method with their children and it's the family that's the village.

I'm sorry but if a neighbor spanked my son I would kick there ***. Now if the same neighbor yelled at my son for what he had done, marched him home and told me about it. Then I would make my son apologize to the neighbor for having to yell at them, and then I would spank my son.
But then I would also have to ask myself why I didn't know what my son was out doing for him to get into that kind of trouble, that a neighbor would even have to yell at them.
I know what my son is doing out side cause I watch him, he may not know I'm watching him but I am.

No one wants to get involved anymore....Sad but true. You must've grown up in my generation. Nowadays, everyone is afraid to get involved. Now I now what my parents were talking about when they said "The good old days". As you can see by the attitude of the one above....parents today don't want anyone else to discipline their children but unfortunately they refuse to do it themselves!

Parents don't raise their own children today,so why should they care what other kids are doing. BUT I agree we knew better than to do mean stuff, we knew if another parent called our parents, we would get it 2x's worse.

Its quite simple...people don't want to get involved...they have there own children to deal with. Whats more, some children don't even respect there own parents ..do you really expect them to respect the lady down the street...?
