I have my tongue pierced twice. The first one didn't hurt at all, it was just a little uncomfortable eating for the first couple of days. The second one hurt only after it swelled, but only because it was farther back in my mouth. But some tylenol helped with that. Biting your tongue actually hurts worse, so if you've done that, then you will be fine.
Be sure to go to a reputable person to get it done. The needle needs to come straight out of the package. And make sure they put a paper towel over your shirt because you will drool.
Good luck!

First off any part of your body that you jam a needle through is more than likely going to hurt.
My experience was getting the piercing didn't hurt as much as my pride when I slobbered all over everyone. After I got it done is when it hurt the most. Swollen, difficult to eat, talk weird, etc. etc.
It really isn't all that bad and if you do get it done Good Luck!
Cheers

Oy. from a strictly anatomic point of view, try this science experiment: tough your ear lightly, then firmly...then do the same with your tongue. The tongue is more sensitive. This is because it has more nerves.
So yes, it should hurt more when pierced.
if you do it, at least get plastic barbells or you could screw up your teeth and have ot pay thousands of dollars to fix them.

Stick out your tongue as far as you can, now pull it with a pair of pliers alot farther than what you have stuck out. NOW BITE as hard as you can. Did your tooth go through your tongue? Nope, hmmm....didn't think so. Imagine how much more it would have hurt if your tooth had pierced through your tongue. That's what it would feel like to have your tongue pierced.

It didn't hurt so much when it got pierced, it was over before I knew it. I thought it was going to be way worse. The soreness and swelling is the worst part.

I was involved with another resident in cleveland that was studying the deaths of women who had died after getting their tongue pierced...you see, the blood flow goes through the tongue before it circulates back through the brain and then back to the heart to do it again. when the blood goes through the tongue, it can pick up some nasty germs that like the brain, and set up abscess housekeeping...these 9 women (that we knew of) died from brain abscesses after getting their tongues pierced...so in answer to your question...after you die, there is no pain.

Not really well it's getting done, but a little after. Just suck lots of ice so the swelling can go down, oh yeah get a long bar cause my friend has a short one and she said it hurt her.

actually it hurt less than getting my ears peirced cause they numb it first. but when it is swollen the couple of days after it may hurt too bad to even eat. just make sure you keep it clean so it doesn't get infected.
