I like oysters raw, with a dressing, but thought it might be different to cook them, but I have no good ideas. This is an URGENT enquiry - they need to be used FAST!!!!!

They were cheap because I got them from a friend in the business, and are very fresh!
I'm going to bed now, but hope to see your replies tomorrow, and use at least one!! Thankyou - you know you are wonderful (I hope).

Hopefully you bought oysters in the shell. If the shells are closed tightly, the oyster should still be alive and should be safe to eat raw. Any oysters that are open and do not close are dead and should be discarded...

But for your recipe...Barbequed oysters are the simplest way to cook an oyster, either on a grill or in an oven.

Scrub the shells clean and rinse in cold water.
Place on grill over hot coals, whole or on the half-shell.
The oyster will begin to open as it begins to cook and you can more easily open it.
Then place inside a few slivers of garlic and a spot of butter.
When the butter melts and the oyster liquor begins to bubble, the oyster is fully cooked. *DO NOT OVER COOK*
Finish with a squeeze of fresh lemon and cracked pepper.

You can also do this in your oven by placing the oysters on a bed of rock salt in a shallow pan and placing them under the broiler for a few minutes. The results are similar, but I love the smokey flavor from the grill.

other ideas that should be available on the web are "Oysters Rockefeller" or "Oysters Casino" that require a little more stuffing, if you will, and baking or broiling in the oven.

Good Luck

I love kilpatrick style oysters. (up the recipe if you're making more than a dozen).

You need:
1 Dozen Fresh Oysters (opened)
100 grams diced bacon
1 Lemon
3 Tbspns Tomato sauce
3 Tbspns Worcestershire sauce
Grated Cheese

Method:
Set the Oysters on a bed of coarse salt, or an oven tray lined with foil
Sprinkle bacon over the oysters
Blend the worcestershire and tomato sauce, to create 'Kilpatrick' sauce
Top the oysters with a small amount of this sauce.

Grill until the bacon is cooked (5-10 minutes)

Sprinkle cheese and grill until golden

Serve with Lemon wedges and the extra Kilpatrick sauce.

Hope you like them... (chopped chives over the top is nice also).

Cheap oysters, huh? Well, if you're willing to eat them...here's the simplest recipe I know of.

* 1/2 cup butter
* 1 cup minced celery
* 3 tablespoons minced shallots or onions
* 1 quart half-and-half cream
* 2 (12 ounce) containers fresh shucked oysters, undrained
* salt and ground black pepper to taste
* 1 pinch cayenne pepper, or to taste

DIRECTIONS

1. Melt the butter in a large skillet over medium heat, and cook the celery and shallots until shallots are tender.

2. Pour half-and-half into a large pot over medium-high heat. Mix in the butter, celery, and shallot mixture. Stir continuously. When the mixture is almost boiling, pour the oysters and their liquid into the pot.

Season with salt, pepper, and cayenne pepper. Stir continuously until the oysters curl at the ends. When the oysters curl the stew is finished cooking; turn off the heat and serve.

Please note that these oysters are done "when the ends curl", so if you have the slightest doubt about the wholesomeness of your oysters, don't count on this to do any 'sterilizing'.

Best wishes!

Make Oyster Stew. Boil the oysters in a stick of butter add celery seasoning (NOT celery SALT), When the sides of the oyster curl, add worchestershire sauce, couple cans of evaporated milk (not condensed). Add more milk and/or more worchestershire sauce to taste. DON'T LET IT BOIL...... Just simmer a while to get the full taste of the oysters. It isn't as fattening as the cookbook versions which call for cream.. Try it..we like it.

well, if you ask me.. there is a recipe from my mom. saute garlic and onion in a pan with with cooking oil, then add sot sauce and a little of vinegar but once you add the vinegar doy mix it, let it boil for a few momwnts then add the oyste add salt and pepper to taste. it really depends on your taste. if you want this recipe you can simply do this. boil water, put the oysters with the shells on it, make sure all is covered with water. then aftera few minutes you can open it and eat it!
