Being knowledgeable about something means that you are familiar with it. Being smart has to do with how you handle the knowledge based on knowledge, experience, and judgement.

Good question!

I think it is how you perceive it. I do think there are people out there that have had extensive education and know all about their particular fields of study. My aunt was that way.

However, even as knowledgeable as she was, with her master's degree in philosophy, she wasn't very smart when it came to common sense.

Some would argue there isn't a whole lot of difference between "smart" and "knowledgeable", and again, I think it boils down to interpretation.

i guess being smart is more than just being knowledgeable.

when you say you're knowledgeable, it means you know a lot of things but i guess being smart means using what you KNOW the right way.

besides, just knowing about things is the lowest level of thinking. you must be smart enough to use, analyze, and synthesize these things you know.

this is just my opinion. i guess being smart is being knowledgeable but in a higher sense of it. think about it. which would you prefer, being told "you're smart" or "you're knowledgeable".. i guess you'd prefer the being smart. =)

imo:

Knowledge is just about the facts. Smart is how you are able to think about them, connect them, apply them, etc.
