Do any of you actually know where the starter is.
It is tucked up under the intake manifold, drivers side. You can't see it from the top and from the bottom you can't see the bolts.
The best way i have found is to do the nasty and remove the intake. that's not as bad as it sounds. a lot less cussing and you can clean it up while you're at it. You can get at it from the top. About 5 hours work.
I've got a 97 with 155K on it and running strong. Have you ever had to replace the flywheel or starter ring plate....Mine blew out the middle at about 120K. That was odd.

i own a repair shop, and there not bad to do,,you need to get it on a set of car ramps if possible though, its easier to get off from the bottom ,just disconnect the battery cable before you start doing this, and make sure you have the right tools to work with,,having the right tools makes the job go a lot easier,, to do this take off all the cables to the starter ,and remove the bolts from it,,make sure it don't fall strait down on you once you get it off installing the new one isn't bad to do,,if you,ll take your time with it,,you can do it,and save your self some money, but the key to doing it,is don't get in a hurry with it,,good luck,i hope this help,s.

no but I put three on an 87 ford bronco II...that baby liked to chew them up like you wouldnt believe...but starters arent very hard for the most part...just make sure the car doesnt fall on you, disconnect the cables and they come out fairly easy...
