If aliens arrived and offered us tremendous technology but the price was we had to worship them, we all know we'd tell them to get off our planet. Humans find the act of worship to be demeaning, and for good reason... worshipping implies that you are less valuable than the thing you worship.

So why do you worship god?

My guess is that god would probably prefer you didn't.

GOD does not want worship, but that selfish egotistical being that created humans does like it. We think he is god but he is NOT. you are right as far as you take it. but look deeper.

We worship God because we like to & love Him. You say " Humans find the act of worship to be demeaning..." well I can not agree with you on that statement- if that was the case- we would have no churches nor religions. I worship God as I believe in Him & love Him, always & forever, good luck.

Worship doesn't imply that you are less valuable than the one you are worshipping--at least not when that One is God! It simply implies that the One you are worshipping is so much more awesome and powerful than you are. We are actually of immeasurable value to God! Otherwise, why would He have sent His own Son to die for us? It is actually very easy to worship Someone who loves you so much that He always has your best interests at heart! There is absolutely no threat in the comfort of His presence. We are totally safe and secure in His love!

Obviously you've never worshiped so you don't know what you are talking about. Worshiping God is the most liberating and freeing experience one can have. God inhabits the praises of His people. That means when we are worshiping He is there. I have seen people healed, people saved, lives changed and prayers answered right before my eyes through worship. It's a very powerful thing.

So why do we worship god? Because we are less valuable than the God we worship. I don't have a problem at all with that.

Only God is WORTHY of worship, and He loves to know that we love and appreciate all that He's done for us by our worship. It is not demeaning to worship the God that gave us life and every good thing we know.

i do not worship 'god' in a christian sense

i do give thanks to the earth & sun for providing me with a home and food, i close my eyes & hold my food up and bow my head, i always feel a tingling sensation in my scalp, neck & back when i do this... chakras ...i've given up trying to rationalize whether or not a 'god' exists, i know that this huge beautiful universe exists & that there are great powers/forces in it & that i am only very small... humility

i wonder if christians think the 'creator' that native americans refer to is the same force that they worship, allah too, one god, many names?

i would have emailed you this ps but you don't allow it;

ps, this is the best question i have seen since coming here, excellent point about the aliens, it's funny, it is much more likely that aliens exist (they do, disclosure project dot com) than it is likely there is some male god (they always refer to god as 'him', why?) but most christians scoff at the idea, (probably because they spend no time at all ever contemplating things like current space news esp. hawking's research), i guess life is easier for them if it's all laid out in a book in a paint-by-numbers society...anyways, i'm babbling, keep em coming... i too try to get them to think

I worship God because He is worthy of praise. I thank Him for answered prayer. I draw close to Him and He draws close to me. A person who thinks worship of God is demeaning should consider that when we gather together to worship Him, He comes to us and is in our worship. He is a God of wonder and grace, and why He loves me so much I don't know.

Why do you call yourself a ninja? That can't possibly be true. What's my reasoning? The fact that bowing to and obeying a "master" is a necessary practice to learn the art of becoming a ninja. You have to have focus, you have to listen to & obey your master and submit your will to him. You would have to follow your master's rules and commands. Based on your feelings about God that would be too demeaning to you, right? Or perhaps you are trying to convice us that it's ok to submit to & obey a human in an effort to improve your physical body & mind but it's too demeaning to submit to & obey God the Creator of your body & soul who alone has the ability to bless you beyond anything you could hope or imagine and even save your very soul.

Does that really make sense to you? It sure doesn't to me.

Well if there are aliens from other planets God made them too. ROFL...... seriously.
I worship him because he deserves it. Humanity would be nothing without him. He is the alpha the omega, begining and end....me, I'm just a spec of dust in the grand scheme of things. I am made pure by the blood of his son.

>The act of worship is inherently demeaning,

Only if you have been used to worshipping yourself.

>worshipping implies that you are less valuable
>than the thing you worship.

But we finite humans do worship Him who is infinite, immortal, holy, righteous, ....

And it is totally reasonable that we should worship Him; but, really, it is not that He needs us to worship Him; rather, WE need to worship.
