I've been having issues with work-related stress, major life changes, etc. that are causing me to stay awake virtually all night. The funny thing is, I don't have any problem falling asleep during the day (naps, middle of meetings, etc.) it's only at night when I worry about stuff that this problem surfaces. What's the best way to fix it?

I used to have the same problem...you will have to keep yourself awake.NO NAPS..for a few days..You will find that you fall asleep that much faster at night. I started taking something to help me relax after my health got bad last year. I would go to your doctor and see if he/she is willing to put you on an anxiety medicine for a while to help you. Try exercising in the evening to see if you can decrease how much stress you are holding in..that may help you fall asleep faster too!

I have had this same type of problem for years. I went to a doctor who is a sleep specialist and I went through a sleep study. I was actually diagnosed with narcolepsy.

Provigil can help you stay awake during the day so you can function normally. Ambien at night works well. Ambien helps me wake up feeling like I had a restful nights sleep and I don't feel hungover when I wake up. I do not like Lunesta because it leaves a bad taste that last all day.

If you suffer from chronic pain as well, you might give Tylenol PM a try. You can get it over the counter and it works.

You have insomnia, period. It is most obvious at bedtime. Your body reacts to lack of sleep during the day. Have a bedtime routine where everything is the same. Don't drink caffeinated beverages after 10 a.m. (including soda). Try a little bit of valerian root if you're in good health. Use a relaxation tape at bedtime (otherwise - no reading, tv, etc.) Good luck, I know from experience it is a trial and error situation.

A word about Ambien. I took it for a while. I fell asleep right away but woke up at 6:00 in the morning and couldn't go back to sleep. I quit taking it.

This is habitual, and you need to re-orient your sleep pattern. Try this...stay awake for 24 hours prior to your next regular sleep period...If this fails, then try exercise a few hours before sleep period. (take the body a little time to slow down). Under no circumstance should you resort to sleeping pills. Try warm baths, etc but do it naturally.

dude...I have the same problem! I took a lot of sleeping pills and some airborn night time crap and it knocked me out at bed time...but then when it was time for work, i felt like dung for the 1st several hours..i reckon the drugs hadn't worn off yet

depression can cause this and your sleep cycle may be off. Maybe you might want to consider seeing a doctor.They can help. I suffer from depression and insomnia as well and have started taking meds that have really helped.

Have you tried drinking some milk? Also, try writing your worries on a pad of paper before you go to bed. I read that it is supposed to help ease your mind.

when you are ready to lay down is when everything comes racing through your head. ask your doctor about ambien cr they will help you sleep and you will feel great the next day.
