You don't say why you stopped taking the medicine.

Any doctor who treats teenagers has probably had many patients who have decided not to take their medications and perhaps not told anyone. It is often a problem with teenagers who want to show that they are the ones in charge of their body, not their parents or their doctors. So, I wouldn't be that worried over what your doctor's reaction will be. This is likely a problem he faces almost every day if he sees lots of adolescents. He will probably just ask you why you stopped taking the medications and then work with you to come up with a solution, whether it is going back on the same medication, or trying a different one, if indeed there is some side effect of the original one that doens't agree with you.
But, you are almost an adult and need to learn to take responsibility for your own health. This is hard for you because you are not yet an adult. I don't know how serious your illness is or what the consequences are for you not taking your medicine. (I am a doctor, but this is not my field). But, you need to contact your doctor who can help you. Certainly Crohn's Disease can be a serious illness and you can't just ignore it. Good luck to you.

This question is not specfic enough to even begin trying to give you an idea of how Crohn's disease may progress in a patient, not taking medication. For example, you didn't mention if your diagnosis is Chrohn's disease of the colon, or of the small intestine.
Although both forms share many of the clinical, pathologic, and epidemiologic features, there are sufficient differences to allow their separation as distinct clinical entities. Therefore, contact your doctor if you have any questions regarding your treatment.
I really hope that you don't think I am being some kinda HARD AZ, but you deserve a correct answer. You physician may also have to ask you a few questions i.e. is there bloody diarrhea, constipation, fever, or extracolonic manifestations e.g. arthritis of liver disease; he may prefer a procedure e.g. a sigmoidoscopy to determine if your disease has gone out of remission.
Hope you contact your doctor right away!

Call the pharmacist & tell them this. Ask them what possible effects may come up. State that you are not asking for medical advice, & that you have already carried out this decision, & would just like to know what would be serious warning signs that would indicate you would be in danger if you didn't get right to the Dr.
That way, if you are going to act against medical advice, you have at least got some parameters so as not to put yourself in the way of serious harm.
Don't know much about Crohn's, but if you are going this route, a very wise man named Richard works at New Leaf store in Felton, Ca.(831-335-7322 #4).
Because of both serious health problems and severe side effects,I have used his advice & my research to achieve far better health benefits than I ever got with the Rx's. He probably knows not only the answer to your question, but can give you some very helpful guidance re. other treatments. And believe me, this guy is brilliant. He can quote you chapter and verse re. clinical trials, etc. This is his calling, & he is one of the very best.
Be careful, prayerful, and take good care of yourself. Don't merely discontinue the meds and leave it at that.Get educated and become proactive.

I have heard of people who stop taking their "happy pills" because they believe the drugs are interfering with "who" they are. But you are suffering from a dietary-intestinal disorder that affects your ability to obtain all the nutrients from food and/or digest and expel food regularly. That is something you should absolutely take your medication for and it does not interfere with who you are or are going to be. Be straight with your parents first - be honest and forthcoming. They may be upset but they will set things right b/w you and your doctor who really needs to know where you are w/ your meds so you can get better. Be strong and you should feel better about the whole thing soon.

Is there a reason why you stopped taking your meds? Go see your doctor, he will be able to answer all the questions you asked. It's better to be safe than sorry. I personally would rather be yelled at than sit about worrying or risk getting some sort of complication because I didn't seek medical advice sooner.

hi, there--you do know you have a very serious condition, correct?? did you stop taking your meds because of rebellion or because they made you feel funny?? if you are rebelling, consider this--you have a very serious disease. it takes you apart piece by painful piece. i have been an rn for over 30 years, and i have seen some flks totally torn up by this disease. there are surgeries after surgeries after surgery. there are many repeated icu admissions and severely painful illnesses. do you enjoy the feeling of Rambo using brass knuckles as he punches yopu in your gut so hard you cannot move??? is that not hte feeling you get every time you get sick??? do you wish to have that feeling intensify??? i am truly serious, my young friend--there is no magical cure for your unfortunate torture--PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE get back onto your medications so another rn doesnot have to watch you waste away thru pain and painful surgeries. why is it that sufferers of crohn's disease are never fat??? could it be the fact the pain and malnutrition suffered by crohn's patiebnts is preventing that from happening???
think about it, fella--wold you not rather have a more normal kind opf life than having to reside in your local intensive care unit?????

Why would you stop taking your medicine without the Doctors consent? You are only asking for serious problems!! Alot of medications, if you stop taking them cold turkey, you are putting yourself at risk for seizers or cerebral hemmorage. My best advice is for you to come clean to your parents and get back on your meds..Asap! Well? What are you waiting for??...Go take your med!

Okay, first you need to just take a deep breath and relax. Take another deep breath. Now, think: would you rather have your doctor yell at you for one minute, or put yourself at further risk for damage to yourself that will last longer than that phone call? If you don't want to speak to your parents, fine. But you need to call your doctor...you have to let him know what's going on so he can help you get back on track...I don't think he'll be mad at you, but more concerned. Good luck to you.
