a 31/2 year old boy who has been acting out in a structured preschool classroom? How do they discipline?

I worked at a Montessori for 2 years. The only discipline we ever needed to implement was time-out. We had a long green bench, and that is where a child sat for misbehavior. If we had problems beyond that, we always collaborated with the parents and let them determine what to do, but that was very rare. Most children in Montessori (at least the one I was at) were generally very well behaved, and it just rubs off on one another. They also get more attention from teachers, so there is less time to act up. If you are interested in a Montessori school, just visit one. They will be happy to show you around, explain everything, and even let you observe for a while.

You need to visit and ask many questions. See if they will work on a behavior plan with you that will work for school and home. Does your son act out because he is overwelmed? The Montessori school might be too structured for him. Make sure the teacher has experience with handing discipline issues.
