Buchanan is one of the best British fighters of all time, he is not very well known outside of Britain but he was a true warrior in the ring his fight with Duran goes down as one of the best fights ever fought by a Brit against a man who went on to probably be renown as the best Lightweight ever.
Mancini however is a case of what could of been, i don't think we can ever truly work out how great he could of been the Kim fight in my opinion ruined his career, before that fight he was one of the most exciting fighters i had ever seen.
As for a fight between the two in their primes i would say Buchanan slightly has the edge, i don't think Ray would stop Ken early which would of been his tactics and this would play into Ken's hands for later in the fight. Buchanan unanimous decision.

Toughguy ~
In my opinion, a in his prime Buchanan beats a in his prime Mancini 9 out 10 times. Mancini's style was too simplistic for Buchanan. Ken went toe to toe with the great Roberto Duran (and YES Duran did hit him low, bad call by the ref) and took everything Duran dished out and came right back at him. Buchanan was tough as nails, his fights with Ruben Navarro and Ismael Laguna (2) were all out wars, Mancini would have a tough time with these two guys, let alone Buchanan

Mancini's straight ahead style would play right into the straighter more accurate puncher Buchanan game plan, this would be the biggest difference in this fight, Mancini tended to throw short, tight punches early in the fight, but as the fight progressed he would start looping his shots, the tightness would be gone (with his wind) this was evident when he fought Alexis and Bramble.

Ken would be able to absorb anything Ray had to give and make Ray pay whenever he missed. Ken would start to cut Ray up around the 6th round and the finally stop him in the 8th.

Mancini - W 29 (KO's 23) TF 34 - W pct 85% - KO pct 68% - wins over Espana, Ramirez, Chacon and Fritas - KO'ed by Arguello, Haugen and Bramble
Deuk Koo Kim died due to injuries he suffered against Manicini.

Buchanan - W 61 (KO's 27) TF 69 - W pct 88% - KO pct 39% - wins over Laguna[2], Navaro and Watt - KO'ed by Duran

I had always felt the Duran beat Buchanan on a low-blow foul that was overlooked by the referee. Buchanan in a 15 rd split decision. He was a better boxer than given credit for.

Buchanan was an underrated fighter. I believe Ken outboxes Boom Boom and wins a split decision.
