My Dad use to take us to hunting camp when we were 6 or 7. After the men got back to camp from the 'real' morning hunt, he'd take me out in the woods and teach me how to act, signs to look for, walking in the woods, etc. Also my Granddad would do the same. I also got to watch the cleaning, etc. For a child, learning the patience hunting sometimes takes is quite a task.
At the same time, I got shooting and firearm handling and safety lessons, usually at different times on weekends and usually with a .22. By the time I was 10 I was an expert shot on the range and knew all the game laws for my state by heart and was taken on the real hunt.
Took my first deer at 11 with a 30.06.
If your son has this kind of training and experience behind him and is mature enough to be safe for himself and others, then sure, he's old enough.
If not, you need to get busy. Write up a quick traing program for him and make him work through it step by step. Nothing fancy needed, just some time and some acomplishments here and there. This can be done year round and he gets to earn it, so it's value to him will be worth a fortune. The time I spent learning to hunt with my Dad, Grandfather and older brothers is something I'll cherish all my life.

yeah, he can go, as long as an adult is with him. I actually started going hunting with my dad when I was about 2. I didn't get to shoot, but I went along. I've been hunting ever since, and I'm now 34.

He can go hunting at that age but he needs to pass a hunters safety course first.

It depends on what state you are in. In Montana you can purchase a hunting license when you are 12, but you have to complete hunters safety first.

Thats an ok age. I started at 8.
The one test that my father did to my brothers and me to determine if we should handle firearms was "the trigger test".
He'd pull out his .38 S&W bodyguard, empty the weapon and let u pull the trigger in DA. If you got to cycle the gun a couple of times, then you are ready to own a weapon.
Just dont forget the remind him the safety stuff and to be a responsible hunter.

I don't know where you are residing...but, in West Virginia......Children who have not reached their 15th birthday, do not need a licence but, must be with an licensed adult, 18 or older.....this does not apply to a land owner......
You must be 21 years or older to hunt with a handgun......thats to old in my opinion but here it is.......

He's starting kinda late, but I guess ...
The minimum age is 6 in Missouri. Certainly 8 is old enough.

What state do you live in? Will he be hunting alone or with an adult? Laws will vary greatly from state to state.

He can go hunting at whatever age you think is appropriate for you to give him a gun and tell him to go murder innocent animals. Good parenting.
