kids need to learn how to deal with boredom, they need to learn how to fall asleep WITHOUT a TV...
my husband was raised this way and I can tell you he is a mess because of it....
I dont even think TV's in cars is a good idea.. kids are growing up never learning how to cope with slow times or boredom
PLUS TVs can contribute to Attention Deficite problems because the shows bounce around so much training the brain to bounce around...(short skits.. commercials... etc)

There's no way my son is getting a tv in his room!!!
He's only 3!! Perhaps when he's older but for now I prefer being able to monitor what and how much he is watching.
He has a portable stereo in his room and after we read a couple of stories he's allowed to choose a cd or tape to listen to. He has everything from classical, lullabyes, kids songs and books on tape. It allows him to unwind and relax and reflect on his day/prepare for tomorrow. Sometimes he'll just lie down and listen; other times he'll look through some books while it's playing. He knows that once the tape or cd is over, it's time for lights out, although it's very rare that he's still awake when I go back in to turn off the stereo and the light.

My sons are not allowed to have a TV in their room. I don't think it is healthy. They can just sit back there and watch in a daze like a couch potato. Besides, I think it keeps them from being with the family and socializing as a family. It is hard to find out how their day was if they are in their room from the time they get home from school. My nephews have a TV in their room so they stay out of their mothers hair. This is wrong. I work with people whose children depend on the TV so they can fall asleep. There is something wrong with this picture.

There will never ever be a TV in our childrens rooms. I think it's detrimental for it to be in there and them to have unlimited access to it. However my daughter (17 months) does occasionally watch her Classical Baby shows to calm down if she's having a fussy night. If we get up at 3 am with her sometimes it's the only way to get her to stop screaming. I don't feel that that is a problem because it's classical music and child appropriate images that really are relaxing (even for me).

Obesity in children increases the more hours they watch television. These results were reported in a study by researchers at the University at Buffalo, Johns Hopkins University, The National Cancer Institute, and the Centers for Disease Control (Crespo, 2001).

No, ever watch Nanny 911? It killed the idea for me totally when I saw an episode where a boy was up half the night watching TV that was no good for him. My daughter has a play area in which she can watch whatever videos she likes from the ones that she has. We do not have cable or satellite.

Nope. As a teacher for over 20 years, I use either soft classical or Christian music on a low volume on the floor. That way it is soothing, but not stimulating enough to keep them awake. It is also a good habit in the long run, especially when you consider what's available on TV, what they will choose to watch as they get older, etc.
I have never seen this cause a problem, and some kids retain this habit into the teen years.

I would say no. TV is too often used to "replace" parenting and more developmental activities. If your child needs noise to fall asleep, try a cd player and some gentle music like Mozart. Classical music is supposed to be great for building brain power......I teach art in an elementary school and have 2 Pre-K classes right across the hall from my room. They play classical music every day at naptime.

It remember if u do not opt for the Malaikas to come back into ur room like sis Maria has quoted the Hadith then it is okay i wager.yet keep in mind that many Malika contain Allah's blessing (Rahmah) so imagine about it.
