California Zinfandels especially from Amador, Paso Robles, and the Dry Creek Valley of Sonoma County. Cabernet Sauvignon from Napa Valley. Pinot Noir from Edna Valley near San Luis Obispo and Russian River Valley in Sonoma. Sparkling wines from Domaine Carneros and Gloria Ferrer both located in the Carneros Region which extends from Napa into Sonoma.

I don't know about best, but reds but I really like anything from Spottswoode, Silver Oaks and Ferrari Carrano. If you want something less expensive Kenwood is quite reliable.
I tend to stick with Sonoma/Napa wines, but some from further south like Paso Robles have been good too.

Champagne, you're on your own. Just get the most expensive one, that'll be good.

Columbia Crest (WA) is outstanding and very well priced (under $15). Ther Merlot and Cab-Merlot are highly rated and again priced that you can't beat.

I like the Bacio Divino (CA) they have a great red table wine that is highly rated (94) that's about $80 and their Pazzo is amazing (93/94) and it goes for about $30.

Finally, the Rosenblum Cellars (CA) is outstanding for their Zin, Petite Syrah and the Merlot is great as well. These are all highly rated and usually under $20.
