No over the counter flea shampoos. No Hartz stuff. Frontline Plus or Advantage on the cats as directed will keep cats clean of fleas for a month. It kills fleas in all their life cycles in your house too. Wherever the cats go, this stuff kills fleas and their eggs and such.
If they are really bad, you could flea bomb your place, but make sure to follow directions. If you have a lot of walls dividing the space, I would put one in each room. If you don't want to bomb, you can get sprays to put on your carpets.
Vacuum really good and throw the bag away. Vacuum again tomorrow and throw the bag away. Do this every day until the cats can get the Frontline or Advantage spread all over your house. No More Fleas. No More Bites. YAY!!!
Cortisone cream works good for the bites you already have. So sorry you must really itch.

First let me tell you that I own a pest control company and what I will recommend is the complete treatment that should help you completely get rid of the fleas.
First, treat the cat with Capstar. This is a pill that will kill all of the fleas that get on the cat for the first 24 hours. Second, use either frontline or advantage. I usually tell people to switch back and forth between the two because there are two different types of fleas that are common on cats and frontline works better on the one type and advantage works better on the other.
Once the cat has been treated, you must treat your home and yard. The best products to do this would include not only a killing agent, but also a sterilization agent. Inside, I would use Ultracide, if you can get it. (Many on line sites sell it.) Outside I would use Demon with Gentrol or Nylar. Treating your house is just as important as treating the cat!
It is also very important to stay away from the grocery store or box store products like Zodiac. Many of these products can cause severe allergic reactions in animals.

Treat the cats. I recommend a good flea shampoo first to get rid of live fleas, remember to start soaking and washing them from the head first. Keep an eye on them and if you feel what seems like grit in their fur especially around the head and the top of their back near the tail give them another bath then apply frontline. You may also have to look at treating the house (carpets, bedding, furniture etc) as the eggs can survive upto at least 6 months dormant. Be persistant and you can win the battle.

Treating the environment is just as important. Each single flea can produce up to 50 offspring daily! Larvae can lie dormant (especially at carpet edges and cracks in flooring) for at least 2 years. Vibration causes them to come looking for a host. Even in property that has been empty for this time, can still have them. If there are no cats around the fleas will bite you, usually around the feet and ankles. They cannot multiple on human blood though. Frontline will sterilize the fleas, before it kills them. Fleas can carry the tapeworm larvae and transmit it to the cat, so it is very important to treat the cat(s) with this product.
Remember, erradication not just for the moggies but for the house/flat also.
Good luck

The solution is very simple . All 3 cats must be treated for fleas . You can do this yourself . Ask the vet for a product which comes in a small plastic container . Snip the end off and squeeze the liquid into the cats fur at the back of the neck where he cant lick it off . You need to keep the cats separated until the liquid dries or they might lick it off each other . They need to be treated every 3 months . It really works .

There is a fantastic remedy you can get from the vets called Stronghold. I used this on my two cats who were covered in fleas and within a day I was finding dead fleas everywhere. Fantastic stuff it is. You need to apply it every month to the back of the cats neck and it kills fleas and there eggs. Using regular keeps fleas at bay. It works by using a poison in the cats blood stream. Not poisnous to the cat but when a flea takes some blood, instant poison!! I honestly swear by this stuff. And it also treats worms and ear mites in cats too with just one application.

Go to the vet and get some "advantage" one/two drops a month will kill the fleas on the cats, also if you have carpets check the yellow pages for carpet cleaners that do "flea treatment" which is good for 6 months or so and works very well!!!

Tell your partner to have his house fumigated to get rid of the fleas. Since you are allergic to flea bites, your partner also needs to get his cats de-fleas. We had a bad flea problem this year too. Both of our cat's & our house were infested with fleas. We had to have an exteminator come out 4 times to get rid of the fleas. By the way our cats are in door cats, so I don't know where the fleas got into the house. Also keep plenty of benedryl near by.
